GREAT Mod, one big complaint.

Wonderful job guys. The models are truly some of the best models I've ever seen in a mod. Very creative. The game itself is very fun as well.

My main concern lies with the vehicle controls. I feel that mouse sterring works best. Keyboard steering is not only harder (as in more annoying and difficult, not deeper) but results in jerky/ugly vehicle movement. I really hope you make all the vehicles use the mouse steering as it will make a world of a difference.

Anyway, great work! :)

Taooffjord,

I hate to disappoint you, but I think that the steering for the Lounge Tank and Barracuda aren't going to change. We decided on keyboard steering for specific reasons for those vehicles; in the tank it's important that you can drive one way and shoot in a different direction, while in the car it's useful to look behind you and see if anything (namely, a rocketbike) is chasing you. Additionally, it seems that UT2k4 also uses keyboard steering for most of their vehicles, and we felt that keeping that scheme consistent was a good idea.

We do appreciate the feedback though. Thanks!

Cheers,
Tom

Haha yeah I forgot about the tank thing. The main problem I had was driving with the car, the tank felt fine. Well I'll get used to it, it's a lot of fun either way.

Keyboard steering was standard for most games I played. What confused me in the beginning was the mose-steering for the Moskowboy. But then I relized how great the controls for a 2-wheeled vehicles were realized.

Actually at first I felt the rocket bike's steering was weird at first, and was wondering why the strafe keys weren't working to steer it, until I figured out the mouse steered it.

I guess it makes more sense for the mouse to steer the rocket bike as you can make more precise maneuvers with the mouse, but it would be kind helpful to be able to steer the bike with strafe and be able to look around you for a target with the mouse. It probably goes to fast for that tho, especially with the rocket on. :) Great mod, great fun, needs more map and people all of which are being worked on, so I guess I just need to be patient.

One thing I noted, you can hit the upper right pump from far away with the tank, it might be better to guard it a bit better with mountains, so one tank can't guard both pumps without going to far. I can take a ss if you don't get what I mean.

great job on the mod.

glad you decided to go down the gametype route rather than a separate startup.

played it for 2 days now. won't criticise anything till i've tried EVERYTHING! but so far this gametype is already far superior to ONS, imo

good job

I must admit, I've stopped playing ONS since I downloaded Clone Bandits.

yeah same here Aconite...ONS is too hectic for my tastes...you can actually plan a strat in cb. I still enjoy ONS, but haven't played it since I got cb.

I'm exactly the same way. Clone Bandits can be so much more enjoyable because a match will never drag on forever. It's not as frustrating as Onslaught. You don't have teams fighting to a strandstill over one piece of terrain. CB is more about the big picture: the ability to respawn and keep on fighting. You're not forced to claim a node or whatever to win. It's all about either collecting jars, capturing pumps, or killing everybody. Each role has a purpose. I love it.

I've read some of your posts on the UT tips Mad Max...learned a couple things reading it, execution of what you read is somewhat different though when you don't play fps very often.

well i only have 2 suggestions really because this mod plays so well it doesn't need much changing.

1. perhaps make a new model for the turrets? they look a little out of place on that map
2. perhaps have some kind of aerial vehicle... not 100% necessary I know since the Moscowboys fly anyway. But I was thinking of a dedicated flight vehicle... helicopter-esque with the ability to bomb targets below.

let me just reiterate. Great mod!

First off, I just joined to say I TOTALLY LOVE THIS MOD. From the get go it is just so, perfect in it's theming. Love the tank recoil, the moscowboy is just a hoot. The mouse steering is different, and it fits it. Do not change that one. I agree the turrets need new models to fit the theme (ok so maybe not perfect :) ).
As for a flying vehicle, it would have to be sutiably odd and not have much fire power, maybe a hot air balloon type thing.
I assume the map layout and enclines are mostly deliberate to facilitate the game play.
Seems like this is going to be a hard mod to make the really grade A maps for. I wish I could help but I have NO artistic ability, I may have to try though.
This has become my 'sit down and have some fun' mod of choice.
Thanks again to all for such a unique mod.

ReLiK,

These are both good suggestions. In fact, a new turret was in the works, and was pretty close to done a while ago - unfortunately, we decided that we didn't have enough time to polish it completely before the first release, and so it was tabled for the time being. And an aerial vehicle was on our wish-list, but we felt that the three existing vehicles took precedence. Maybe sometime in the future.

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks for the great mod guys. I busted out my UT2k4 LE a few weeks ago to give it a shot. I was in the mood for some Onslaught, but decided to try out Clone Bandits after the mention on Penny Arcade. Boy am I glad I did. A great game. I've never had so much fun on a one level mod in my life  Great work and anxious to see what's in store.

Forgot to mention, but your email signup on the main page doesn't work. Would love to signup, or at least have an RSS feed for your news page.

smikwily,

Thanks for all the praise! We're glad you decided to give Clone Bandits a shot. In addition, thanks for the good catch on the broken mailing list. I suspect that went haywire after the Penny-Arcade posting; we were shuffling images and such around to deal with the increased load, and I guess that got mishandled. We're fixing it now.

Cheers,
Tom

Well, the mailing list signup worked, but the main page images are pointing to the wrong location, so they are broken. The confirmation page for the signup seemed ok, as the images loaded fine.

Doh! You caught us in the midst of the juggling process. I think it's done now, but don't quote me on that. ;) Thanks for the patience!

Cheers,
Tom
