IMHO UT far outplays either of these. I do admit the gameplay of Counterstrike is very different. However, to me, it lacks to adrenaline pumping action UT provides.
Perhaps I was a little late in playing these two mods for Half-Life. Before UT, they would have been much better. Am I missing something here? What do you guys think?

Well, what I like about TF is that you can choose the type of player. And every type has its own specialties. For instance, a scout is quicker than a HWG, but the latter has better protection etc.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the only thing that's cool. I never play TF, and Half Life almost never, 'cause when you've defeated the final monster four times it starts to get a bit boring....

No, take UT for that matter. UT has lots and lots more action, carnage, etc than TF can ever dream to have. And it NEVER bores! I'll take a CTF game in UT over TF anytime!

BTW Team Fortress AND Weapons Factory are coming out for UT in the not too distant future.

Both are class based games, meaning you choose a player equiped with a set of weapons and grenades. Heaver armed classes move slower, some classes are better suited to defensive roles. Both games sport alot of new weapons.

I come from Q2, playing manily Weapons Factory, it's like a crak-smoking version of TF. Hopefully the designers will preserve the speed of the game for UT.

I just tried Wolfenstein and Pac-man and I gotta say today's games are much better in terms of graphics and depth. How these games could ever be popular is beyond me...oh, wait a minute that's right something called a tech curve. I'm sorry, I'm being an *******, but you can't compare old games with current; it's completely ridiculous. Play HL a few years a go (when everyone else did) and then your opinion would be valid. However, now, it's just meaningless. Again, I'm sorry, but sarcasm sometimes is fun.

Anyway, I actually think that both TFC and CS rock hard. I came late to these mods (I only bought Half-Life last week) but they're still great for a diversion from UT.

CS Beta6 is pretty damn good once you get into it. I posted my opinions about it on the CS forum, so I won't repeat myself here. (Besides, this isn't a CS forum).

There's a lot to like about TFC. The different classes are fun to play (the medic and hwguy are my favorites. The scout is fun, but drops dead as soon he sees a sentry gun) and there is a little bit more to the teamwork in TFC. The other thing I like about it is that it's hard to get resupplied in the opposing team's base.

Hey Watchdog...my post didn't say anything about comparing this years technology to that two years ago. I was commenting on the gameplay alone, graphics and sound aside. Of course both of those are better today. By the way, I played Half-Life when it first came out. I just never got around to trying the mods till now.

I have tried both counterstrike and TFC a bit more and while the gameplay is unique it just doesn't cut it compared to the action of UT.

Someone mentioned TF and CS is coming to UT. Sign me up!

TFC/CS and UT are really not comparable! Totally different mods and gameplay as well as strategy. I've been playing TFC for quite a while as medic, engineer and occasionally as spy, sniper and HW guy. Each class provides for a totally different strategy and can be quite challenging. I particularly enjoy conc. jumping all over to get the capture in minimal time. Team coordination is also essential. Fun to watch shattered bodies, skulls, bones and blood all over the place! UT also totally rokz! Great AI, weapons, diversity and rich graphics. Online games are fun and challenging but clearly different from HL mods. Love both games equally!IMHO /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Trust me, in no way is team fortress coming to ut (valve nough the company with the tf rights) Someone may make a game with a simular name and game consetp but there will not be a team fortress game from anyone but valve.

I think counterstrike is better than UT, mainly because it involves some tactics and a hole lot of team play. In UT you "only" jump around and shoot. Looking forward to Action UT though!

Ohh and on a side note, Ut's net code is still a pice of **** compared to what the quake engine offers! It's getting better but its not good enough to enjoy a game over a 56k modem!

You know, I had the same thing w/ Tribes. A buddy of mine set up a server and bugged me till I bought the game (got it on eBay real cheap), and tried it out. I swear, I nearly fell asleep !!!!! Playing UT, I'm used to 120mph, not reverse!!!!!

For those who have seen posts from me before, I may mention Rogue Spear from time to time. Any input on this one?

For those of you who dislike Half-Life, or think it's a "Piece of Trash", you are smokin crack. Half-Life delivered total shock to the action gaming community when it was released. When I bought it, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Although the action may not last through every friggin piece of the level, that's not what HL centers around. Action with Strategy and Tactics mixed in. You have to think to survive, not just run and shoot. The AI is incredible, especially those damn marines with their MP5's. And at the time, I'd play Half-Life over any other Fps'er out there, and I would still play it over good ol' UT. Yeas Deathmatch sucks on HL, and I admit that. But TFC rocks *** ! I don't buy this UT CTF bull****. Everyone the same type of player? Ack. The only thing that helps is runes. But I miss the thrill of being a spy and going up behind someone and knifing them a good one in the back. Or yelling at my team to get the hell back and defend the base. You just don't get the teamwork in UT CTF. You have to admit that. And look at how much more popular TFC is. At least 2,000 servers are on at ALL TIMES. And you get WAY better ping. So before you go trashing HL and TFC, and CS for that matter, you need to be good at it. If you suck at something, sure you'll hate it. Go out and actually get good at it and we may listen to your opinion. As for me, I used to run a TFC clan, so I know what I'm talking about. UT is good, but the CTF just doesn't cut it.

There is a Team Fortress mod coming to UT(two, if you consider Weapons Factory to be close enough). I think it's called UT Fortress or something. No, it's not from Valve but who cares; The original TF mod for Q1 was not made by Valve.
And Counter Strike is a good mod(going by shear numbers- too slow for my tastes). There are a few similar(meaning realistic weapons) mods coming to UT.
There's Infiltration
There's SWAT
And then there's Strike Force which looks to be the coolest one of all.

Infiltrator 3.0 (witch is not out yes :-( ) look ALOT like CS6 beta.
There shall be also VIP's to protect, weapons specialist etc etc, just like CS.

But CS is more realistic, and anyone playing UT/Q3 tactics is fragmeat in those games.
The general idear of the game totally different as UT.

So is laming & camping in UT, is for me something where the deathpenatly is for invented, and i'll go after lamers and campers till they sick of me, and hate my guts as hell, but is CS i'll do it constantly, (love a good sniper spot).

Hell one bullet is in CS enough to kill you, even with full armor while in UT you'll need almost 199 bullets to waste someone if he got armor etc etc.
