Ive been in PuF since the begining. Ive seen the rise, and recently, the fall of PuF. I can safely say that PuF is at an all time low. A couple of months ago, PuF was thriving with activity, The Euro nights always had at least 10 people there, saturday nights were filled with PuF'ers. Now there are about 3 people at Euro meetings, and most of the people in #planetunreal dont bother to chat now, they just go off on there own games. This is happening to all aspects of PuF. What i want to know is, why is this happening? I can understand why people are leaving now, nothing happens anymore. Im thinking of droping the PuF tag now, and simpy having the TC tag. PuF is getting stagnent, and its gonna get worse unless something big happens.

If PuF falls apart, I probably won't even log into the #planetunreal chat. I'd probably go to some of the clan chats...

What can we do to get interest in the PuF community? Our membership is slowly falling... That being said, I think the bond in our community (from the older members) is pretty strong. I hope that guys like LK, Rooster, Nigma, Zaccix, etc. stay. I know I'm forgetting some people, but not too many. And that is really disappointing.

I haven't been to the "meetings" lately because every time we play in a match, people get pissed because I have a low ping, and they want me to play on a different server. (For example, in the OzUT match, they wanted me to play on the Oz server. 800 m/s at best. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif) I like seeing fellow forumers in games though.

Ok guys/gals...first of all, I don't think PuF is dying! Us older PuF's have contributed to this ideal and kept it going...look at all the PuF tags! PuF is international and big and because we don't see everyone, does not mean they don't play. Different time zones, different jobs, different everything. There is no set rule that all PuF has to log onto #planetunreal. You all know that I do...but others may choose another chat room. The PuF tag was meant to assist each of use in name recognition.

To my collegues who started and still remain Puf...stay with it! If we the core drop and leave, then Puf is nothing more than a fad. I will stay until Planet Unreal itself disbands. There are Highs and lows with everything in life. The Determining factor on how something succeeds or fails, is how a person or group remains steadfast, loyal and applies ingenuity.

I have chatted and played with you all...and I enjoy our time together! PuF has received praise from clans and renegade players and we contributed to new blood visiting this forum. Just read all the "Nice to be here", "Met some PuF the other nite" posts (note: topics in quotes are just examples). I'm staying... /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

I know I'm one of the newbies here, but my experiences with everything PuF-related has been nothing but positive. I've made quite a few new friends and learned more about the game than I could have ever hoped to without you all. I haven't really been around long enough to see when PuF was at its highest point (I've only been here a month) but it doesn't seem 'dead' to me at all. If we all want PuF to stay around, it's up to us. Don't drop your PuF tag saying that it seems to be 'stagnating', because then you're just contributing to the problem by narrowing our ranks even more. /~unreal/ubb/html/frown.gif

Sure, people come and go, but nearly everything in this world is like that. I guess the people who didn't hang around as a PuF for too long just weren't into it.. but there's still the people who are into it and don't want to see it disappear. PuF just needs some new blood is all, it's not dead yet. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

-Jenny's PuF tag is here to stay

I agree with Xylene. Im very much new here but would have NEVER learned as much as I have if people like rooster hadnt taken the time to help me out in learning the "tricks" sorta speak.

Same thing happens in the LinksLS community, which Ive been a part of for 5+years so Im the old timer there. People come and go but the core group of people are what holds it in place over the years(ie. rooster, niggma, etc).

So dont quit on us..things will only get better!

I am guilty. I use the PuF tag online for playing, but I don't log onto #planetunreal. It is just a matter of not wanting anything cluttering up my meager 28.8 connection when I am playing. Also, I usually try to play on servers with a good ping to me, and that doesn't seem to work out with the other Puf'ers. But, when we chance to meet, it is still enjoyable, and the tag serves its purpose : it identifies a fellow PU forumer, and in some cases, prevents confusing identification of another player with the same handle.
I play strictly on zp| servers now, and there are only about a dozen of those. Just sort your server list alphabetically to find them.

I'm sticking with PuF. it was created the day before my birthday /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

This is just a bit of a low point. I think as the days get warmer and lighter, and summer starts creeping in, we'll see a more chilled-out PuF, with people spending the days outdoors and the nights chillin' with their PuF bredrins.

(Well that's what I think anyway /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif )

There are a lot of people out there that PuF to stay. Even if only a few people were left that were PuFers than I think it would still be the best pseudo clan. The people here provide information to people to help them out and help them have a more enjoyable time playing UT. I know I have learned many tricks and that advice has helped me improve my game. To lose PuF and the information these people give would be a great loss to the UT community.

OK, just to make it perfectly clear, i am NOT leaving PuF. I fear it is too late for me to save my soul now /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

I don't know, I for one don't use the PuF tag on my name anymore, because I've never seen another PuF online, and I don't want to be mistaken for someone in a clan that is good. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Oh well, I wasn't "involved" enough to miss it.

And I doubt anyone noticed, but I barely post anymore. I don't think I'll ever get to 600 posts, let alone Godlike.

Eventhough I don't post that much, I visit this forum and read most of the posts everyday. PuF started officially on Dec 14, 1999. PuF is definately being recognized in the UT community. It is hard to expect you'll find a PuF playing on a server with good pings for you everyday, due to timezone differences, locations, etc.

Furthermore, there are some many different gametypes to choose from. I personally like LMS, but I rarely see other PuFs in LMS. Everyday, I see lots of PuFs playing CTF, but I don't like CTF that much.

In addition, different people have different preferences. I like small games with only a few players. Some like busy servers.

Given all these variables, it is not surprising that PuFs may never get together, but that doesn't mean we are falling apart.

A "real" clan is different because they are setup to gather people with very specific interests. Some clans like CTF and most of there members only play CTF. Because PuF is an informal group, our interests are very diverse, which may sometimes isolate us in public servers. But we are still as strong as ever, and we should be proud to wear the PuF badge.

Kayfabe breakin here.

Umm.. As BadAss has said PUF is not a Clan. IT never was intended to be a clan.. nor did folks want it to be one. And as far as PuF not being active.. You want to get a better idea of its activity.. Just go to Ngstats and look at all the PuF names there and Look at the amount of minutes of UT they play.

I think those who think PUF is not active would be pleasantly suprised.

For Example.. Look up TheRock[PuF].
IF you want to find me online my favorite server is Sword's UT server for Dm. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Also.. I am going to be working on my Monster Assault Mod I thought of.. Anyone who is into making maps who his interested in working with me.. Can drop me an email.. AT

Yeah. I've been here for the same amount of time as LK and PuF is in free fall at the moment.

But I guess this is just natural. After the big night there is always the lull before the second rise. Stick in there. PuF will be back before you know it.

Altho, I have to say now, that as soon as HALO is out. I may have to leave /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

By the way, I don't think chating in IRC is on the decrease. If anything its on the increase, perhaps people want to play and if they go into IRC all people do is chat.
...sometimes thats how I feel as well. Not enough action goes on anymore. On tuesdays and thursdays we play about 35% of the time talk 65% of the time. Not a good ratio in my book.
This Tuesday I will be pumping server addresses onto IRC all night. I NEED a high ratio of action. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif
Otherwise I'll have to write crap again...

It's not dying, we are all still PuFfers, we are just going our own way at the moment.

What we need is for the PuF vets/members to keep a strong presence/profile on #planetunreal and the forums. And getting the PuF Website back on track should be a priority. Being an informal group doesn't mean that we shouldn't know what's going on.

We should also do more things to bring all the PuFfers together ie. more inter-forum matches. In retrospect, OzUT was a bad idea, as either side was always going to have awful pings on the away games. Keep to US/Euro based forums as most of us can get good (or at least playable) ping on them.

PuF won't die, but it shouldn't be allowed to fade.

I have been with PuF since the beginning. And I can agree with Prophetus when he says that he isn't quiting til Planet Unreal is disbanded. I think too many people got it in there head that PuF was a clan, and not a community of people. I believe that too many people are also so status driven that they don't want to be assosiated with some of our "not-so-hot" players (include me in that category).

PuF is not about being a Clan or about Status. PuF is about getting together with friends and playing a game. It's about having fun. In fact, the whole purpose of UT is fun. For those who want to remain PuF, I congradulate you. For those thinking of becoming PuF, just add the tag [PuF] to your name and welcome aboard.
