But, for 700-100Mhz, the Coppermine P3's are faster for most stuff, because of the full speed cache. The Athlon does have an advantage when it comes to FPU performance though - but that advantage is diminished by it's 2/5 (700Mhz+) or 1/3 (1Ghz+) cache.
I'd go with the P3 myself, but since you've ordered the Athlon 800, go with it. The difference is minimal at best. Of course if you get one of the older Athlon chipsets with the IronGate northbridge, you will probably have problems with any GeForce card you put in there. (check out Tom's Hardware for more info).
Hope this helps... And I'd really rather not spend any more time arguing the values of P3 vs Athlon. As well, if someone comes in and just says, P3s rule! Athlons suck! or vice versa, just ignore them. Typically fanboys that don't really have any solid information to back them up.
