i recommend hybrid cars. they're all really small right now, but lexus will have a hybrid RX in their 2005 line. if you're tired of paying $2.50 for a gallon of gas, and supporting our saudi overlords, flight back with hybrid cars.

plus, there's an added bonus:

suppose you're a crypt in south central LA, one of your homies just got shot by a couple of bloods down the block... you and your niggas be looking for some payback. for shizzle. you bring your guns and you take your escalade to do a drive by at a blood wedding... but the problem is the 80 cylinder engine in an escalade... it's so loud that people hear you coming down the street. they be jumping out of the way and getting they homies... what you need is a quiet vehicle that will conceal your position until the optimal cap busting in ass timeframe.

the absolute silence of a hybrid car at low speeds travelling on full electric solves that problem completely. it doesn't even make a hum during your drive by, and the only sound your victims will hear is the thud of his ass getting capped.

plus a big tax break from the government. on the order of several thousand dollars. there's federal and then a state one, which varies. i guess if you're' from nebraska or something, where they still hunt buffalo with muskets, you won't get a big tax break, but otherwise you should be looking for a few thousand dollars back.

It's true...they are very appealing right now. The problem is that when you get your tags they charge you 2-3x times the normal amount because your not paying for gas...or enough gas...they decide to tax you when you buy your tags.

The batteries also have to be replaced every 4-7 years. Although you might not think thats a big deal since most people replace their cars during this time...it is a conscern when you try to sell the car...or have to pay $4k to replace them.

In the long run it may be cheaper...or it may not be.
One thing is for sure....they definately are good to go on a vehicular rampage with.

4K to replace the batteries?...that definetly jinxes it for me...

and most people only keep their cars 4 to 7 years?...in my parts most don't buy them until their 4 to 7 years old...and keep them until their rust...

i would let the technology mature for a while. if any of you were around a few years ago, i worked in an R&D battery formula company.

the main problem is coming up wiht a more efficient formula for the contents of the batteries. right now, it's acid-lead, ni-cd, ni-mh, and alkaline. alkaline doesn't offer any serious goodies for vehicles, i think they use ni-cd in hybrids. but the problem is just finding a better formula than ni-cd. unfortunately, it's all empirical, i.e. trial and error, which can be a LONG process. but this only proves taht it can be a LONG term solution. so you guys should look into it, keep an eye for the technology to become better in the next few years, and seriously think about switching over.
