Well, if you want to get very technical, OC'ing your card will shorten it's life. However, I strongly doubt that you'll still be running on that card in 10 years, so go ahead and OC away!

It really can vary from card to card. If nothing else, run some games and see if you get any artifacting or corruption. The auto detect thing doesn't really work that great sometimes. With my card it tell me that I can run the core at 522MHz and the memory at 1.2GHz. If I clock it higher than 475/950 I get artifacts (FX5900)

heres something that boggled me

the other night, i tried to underclock my 9800 pro (just curious to see how much performance is lost)

and just as soon as i set the clock speed down 3Mhz, artifacts popped up all over my screen, and wouldnt go away even when i set the speed back to normal

so im freaking out thinking i just ruined my brandnew card
so i uninstall the ati utillity thing and restart hoping this would help
but it didnt, it there was stuff all over the bios load screen
so i powered down and unplugged for a minute, and praise the lord everything was back to normal

so the moral is, dont frikkin over/under clock your vid card!!! its not worth screwing up a $300 card :hmm:
