<Problem>
Wife + UT/Computers Don't Mix:
-Wife thinks I spend more time on computer/UT than her.
-Wife thinks I stay up too late at night on computer.
-Wife thinks we needlessly spend money on components, software etc.
-Wife thinks I am a 37yr old teenager.
-Wife won't play UT or other Internet games.

<Possible Solutions>
-danno gets divorced, turns celebate gay<NO>
-danno spends time with wife during primetime of evening, when wife goes to bed danno goes to computer to play. Wife gets mad because danno stays up late. <NO>
-danno sells computers, stays home and watches soap operas with wife<NO>
-danno divorces, shaves head, becomes a monk that plays UT.
-danno shows UT to wife, wife gets really into UT, starts playing on the home LAN for countless hours <In my dreams>

I have the same problem, unfortunately it's EITHER the wife or UT. She just can't seem to unserstand that I NEED to practice so much to get better.

Here's one - try explaining exactly why you NEED to have a USB mouse for that extra edge of performance - lol.

There was another one too, but I don't know what happened to it.

Same here Danno. But I am lucky in one respect - my wife has to get up at 4:30am to go to work, so she goes to bed the same time as my son - 8:30pm ... and she doesn't care that i STAY UP TIL 12:00 playing. She used to, but I told her that UT was a better recreational alternative than say .... going out whoring around. That fixed it ...LOL

CB - that's exactly my case. My wife gets up early as well so she goes to bed when my daughter goes to bed, so I have the evening to play UT if I want, unless we have some other event. But I am all too familar with the "why are you buying that game/component? Don't you have enough already?"

I just can't get my wife interested in anything more complex than solitare. She doesn't like them! /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Since mine is expecting, she too has been going to bed earlier, 930P-1030P, which helps. We will find out next month if we will have a young Marine "Sniper", ( Of course he would have to be properly trained).

I play Falcon 4 more that UT, but the problem is just the same...

As an experiment inalternative pastimes I once spent an evening of 'quality prime time' with my wife. We watched no end of soaps, hospital dramas, documentaries on eating disorders (or any other program where someone cries) before she announced that she was going to bed. Hardly a word had passed between us, yet when I point all this out and explain the joys of interacitve & thought provoking entertainment do you think for one instant she saw my point of view? Well? And I get flack for 'always watching that Star Trek rubbish' which is on once a week. Bless her.

Hey, at least you guys' wives kinda accept the computer itself. Mine won't even ATTEMPT to learn anything about it! Well, at least I don't have to worry about her cutting in on my UT time :) DM, I can sympathize. My wife has the same idea of "quality time". But ours usually ends up with me watching her fall asleep on the couch. That's when I sneak off for some REAL quality time... FRAGGIN" !

My cousin's wife plays UT over their home LAN connection. Since my cousin works on programming and computer building, hes got a 4 comp LAN. Most people can't believe his wife actually plays UT... or how good she is at it either, except when i fragged her when she tried to put on lipstick. : )

This post is just TOO much..LOL!

Ive been married for 9 years now with 3 kids(13,4,1month) and Ive heard all the arguments that have been posted here..HAHAHA!

What we've finally had to do is have "family time from the time I get home until they go off to bed about 830PM, then the computers all mine for the rest of the night!! WHOOHOO

I do give up Tue/Thur nights and "off time" from the computer except for checking mail and the UT forum.

Weekends are "up for grabs" as to when I get on, but usually Im on most weekends unless she has plans.

And YES Ive tried to get her to play or take a interest in what Im doing here. But to NO avail it seems. She'd rather have that quality time as well watching TV and such, but like some fo you have said you just sit there watching not saying anything..LOL! Before this I was ALL THE TIME playing LinksLS (2 clubs and 8 ladders worth!! ROFL), but Ive side stepped over to this since getting the UT Demo a few months back! LOVE IT!!!

Anyway, better get offa here, its NOT a computer night!! ROFL

(Jenny's disclaimer)
No, I don't have a wife, but I still would like to reply to this. I'm apologizing now for sounding all preachy and lame, I know it's very unlike me but here goes. I'm not directing this message at anybody, I know many people's situations are different. I'm just trying to relate what happened with me to you all so maybe the same mistakes won't be repeated again.
(/Jenny's disclaimer)

Sure, I'm a pretty addicted gamer and all. Right now I'd be happiest with somebody who shares my main interests (basically: UT). BUT, I can see the other end of the stick here. Guys, the WORST thing you can ever do to a female you care about is make her feel like a collection of rendered frames is more important than she is (or the computer itself, text, football, beer, whatever.. pick your poison).

I hate to even have to bring this up again, but the reason I broke up with my most recent was largely due to his refusal to put me before gaming. It hurts when somebody you think cares about you does this, and makes you feel very unimportant. Of course, there were other factors, but this heavily influenced the decision I made.

To sum up my ranting: This string shouldn't even exist! If you really care about her, she should be #1 in your life. If you don't, there's a good chance she won't be there next time you peel your eyes away from that monitor to tell her to wait another minute or two.

-Jenny hopes she's not coming off as a b!tch

This is the classic dilemma with wives.

Women have had this same complaint for years, for my wife it's that I spend too much time on the computer. Her mom; she complained that her dad spent too much time in his wood shop, my mom complained that my dad spent too much time at the bar (OK that is a legit complaint)but you get the idea.

Whether it's the computer or restoring a car or building wooden things, guys have hobbies and women see these hobbies as worthless because it's not time spent with them (however if you can find a common hobby then congrats, you win).

The big problem is that men define themselves by the things they do, and women define themselves by the relationships they have with others. Unfortunately the only way it seems us guys can satisfy the women is to give up our own identity and become what they want.

But there is an answer; The great equalizer is sex, so if you're going to play a lot of UT be ready to perform in bed (that means foreplay, giving oral whether you get it back or not and snuggling afterward) /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif

I should write a book, but then she'd just complain that I spend too much time writing (nag nag /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif )

Xylene,
I respond to you as my wife sits in the living room watching "ER".
Tonight, I got home about 5'ish, we then went to eat dinner. After dinner we stopped by the pregnant womens bra store...(It's a very LARGE store) /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif
After that we stopped by CompUSA, and believe it or not I didn't spend a penny. Although in my mind I probably spent about 2-5K. (Is that considered adultry)?
We obviously spend some time together with children and one on the way. (Of course many where concieved inbetween MAP CHANGES). I am pretty fast.
Thanks for everyones responses and suggestions.

Well... Xylene put it nicely.. but I thought it might help to actually hear from a wife. ;-)

For those that don't know, I am Rooster's wife. I have a puter of my own.. and think I can safely say I am puter literate. I enjoy playing UT on occasions and have my own games I enjoy.

Here's what we do. Rooster comes home and generally will check mail and surf until it's time to make dinner. He then takes care of the kiddos while I cook. We have a nice dinner at the table (Use to eat it infront of the puters.. bad idea) We then watch some TV with the little ones. After they go to bed it's puter time unless there is a late show that we enjoy (Like ER).

Here's an idea for you. Rooster and I have set up one night that is pretty much puter free. We call it Movie night. Pufer's might notice that Rooster rarely plays on Mondays. ;-) Make one night just her's... even if that means watching "chick flicks."

Another good idea is find things she is interested in on the Puter... my first thing was AOL chat.. it was nice to talk with other Moms :)

Hope I helped.

Well, when I'm playing UT, my spouse is playing Counterstrike most of the time... we rarely have rows over FPS addiction /~unreal/ubb/html/biggrin.gif. When it actually happens, though, it's because I'm the true addict! I feel sorry then for neglecting him and I promise not to do it again, but... that's not easy... /~unreal/ubb/html/frown.gif
