ok this isnt a map problem but i dunno where else to put this, atari is taking too long to reply my question i sent to atari support...

anyway every minute or so of playing the game it crashes and gives a "general protection fault" error

what i really want to know is what causes a "general protection fault" and how to stop it from happening....anybody?

thanks.

btw, forum tip. Ignore everything CyberTroll says :p
And first step after getting a crash is to check out your UT2004.log file in your UT system directory. Normally contains more usefull info on what caused the crash.
I don't think using Win98 is going to make things very stable in the first place though :p

You seem to have a fairly new pc, i' m surprised that you are still working with win 98!

You really should install win XP if you can dude...not sure if version 98 is fully compatible with the newest game.

But again, i do not garantee that this is the problem, it may be a wrong, too demanding video setting and/or wrong sound setting.

Make some changes and check the results. Good luck! :)

ive already tried it on xp, it still crashes
heres the message i sent to atari support:

General protection fault!

History:

----------------------
the last time aked for help, i got the readme file copy and pasted back to me.
that didnt exactly help >:/

1) nothing running in background, spyware, background programs ruled out
2) crashes on all render devices..so its nothing to do with software,d3d,or opengl
3) updated all my graphics,sound,board drivers..still crashes...
4) crashes in safe mode too..
5) crashes with sound disabled, so its not a sound problem
6) tried the game on win98, winxp upgrade and winxp fresh install..crashes on all
7) tried reinstalling and uninstalling..still crashes
8) tried everything to do with settings ingame, graphics detail levels blabla, none of that made a difference
9) it crashes for no reason i could be running about killing, standing still, or spectating...it still crashes...
i dont know what else to do. i really dont.

ill probably flick out for some extra memory one day..but i doubt that will fix anything.
many people have confirmed my computer specs should be enough to run ut2k4
and many people who have lower specs than me can run the game fine...

so what is the cause :/

im not the only one, some people said they had this same problem with ut2k3 but the problem fixed when the patch was released
so, is there gonna be a patch for ut2k4?

----------
i dunno what to do

im taking a guess the only choice ive got is to buy a new pc, but i dont have money falling out my ass either :o

so frustrating!

Hum-hum...just thinking...maybe a nasty virus is doing that my friend.
Have you done a virus check lately? MAYBE YOU SHOULD FORMAT YOUR HD AND REINSTALL EVERYTHING...

but wait, i have a good pc tool on my pc, it's a "unwanted files" detector/cleaner called: Ad-aware 6.0 get it free at lavasoft.com

I remember now, i could'nt open many games a few months ago because of some virus hidden in a few windows system files...

...and forget about Atari, imo they don't know f*ckall! GOOD LUCK! :)

well the patch is out, is anyone still having any problems with bugs?

i can play onslught now without it crashing and without all those flashy lights, but there have been 2 games where it HAS crashed. but still, it used to crash every time i played onslaught except for ONS-Torlan, so there is at least some inprovement. :D
