Patch update Question? UT2003/2004

Patch update Question

Just carious: I think I read somewhere that if you are installing UT2004 you Do-Not need to run any of the updates for UT2003 as 2k4 already has the latest updates, Its this true?

I was under the impressing that UT2004 would update and just add to the existing folder of 2k3, but I was wrong. After dong a clean install of 2003 and then instating 2004 explanation right after I now have two UT folders on my C: drive for both versions and they are taking up over 7 Gbs of space with no custom maps installed. no big deal though becouse it rocks!

I guess my main question is: although I did not run any updates for 2k3, did the new 2004 CD update the core of 2003? Or was I suppose to run the 2225 update for 2k3 before installing 2004?

AFAIK, UT2k4 in considered a separate game, and it doesn't concern itself at all as to whether UT2k3 is present or not.

Hello Hyrulian Hero:

Wait a sec, are you telling me that I can completely uninstall UT2003 from my system and the new game will run? And will all the old maps and textures in the game and Editor be present?
I mean then know one would even need to buy UT2003. I thought that 2004 needed the core of 2k3 to run?

If not then it’s not an expansion by all means. I'm confussed

UT2004 is a separate game, although it has (almost) all of the content from UT2003 and the bonus packs released for UT2003.

Holy crap... you must be using about 8 GB for basically the same thing. UT2004 makes UT2003 unnecessary on your HD. It contains all of UT2003 except LavaGiant2 and Curse3.

Yes. UT2004 includes ALL of the UT2003 content in it, and adds about 50 maps and several game types to it. You don't need UT2003 at all anymore.

And don't get the idea to install "patches" for UT2003 on your UT2004 installation

I'm keeping Ut2k3 installed until I can easily drop all my mods, maps, and player models into UT2k4. Or maybe when the new ChaosUT is released. I have a plenty of room on my hard drive, so for the time being it's no big deal.

in my excitement, when removing ut2k3 i forgot to backup all my maps i made ^_^ i guess i dont care though.

Damn, I guess your right; Thanks 2k3 is gone!

@ Slartoff, I don’t mind losing a map but are any of the 2k3 texture packs gone?

@hal, I wonder why LavaGiant2 and Curse3 got taken out, Lava was a killer map. I suppose I can just transfer it over but either way it’s not a big deal. Man I’m blown away by how they remade the CTF-Face3, just amazing!

If you only uninstalled the game and didn't actually delete the UT2003 folder yet, all the stuff that you made should still be there.

LavaGiant2 had some major problems in its conversion to the 2K4 map format; I suspect we'll see it re-released in a few weeks.
