I'm 95% sure I'm posting about the right map.
I noticed a serious problem with oneof the smaller maps tonight, I think NAULARN.
[EDIT: Hm. It could be Asunder with the problem spot being on the left diagonal canyon from the middle bottom generator instead: http://forums.beyondunreal.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=72686 Sorry I'm not 100% sure]
The middle is asymetric I think. On one side there is a very narrow canyon with a deploy point perched up on the canyon wall, and then a Generator on the opposite side of the canyon a small distance up.
The game pretty much ground to a halt in this area for 10 minutes or so, while everyone on both teams rushed the generator. Turrets, gas bombs and blind gunfire in one giant, never-ending cluster uh... flak.
On the other side is a generator with a Juggernaut that appears next to it. Camp the Juggernaut and kill anything that comes up that canyon on the other side.
Not much fun at all as is. I have to give the designer credit if he wanted a huge battle in the middle and 'balance' of not being able to get into the defenses. But I don't feel that makes for good game play really.
Seems like 1 team is always going to be really out of energy or not much headway is made once someneo gets an artifact because they have to get past the big battlefield. (I think we had 8 on 8 or so).
Suggestions: Maybe too late at this point but
1) Widen both canyons
2) Move the deploy or generator farther away from each other
3) Make the map bigger/wider and create a center route over/through the mountain. It is impassible atm.
4) Move the Juggernaut/replace it with another vehicle
My vote for best map for tight game play is Emerald. Energy changes hands a lot but you can also keep it pretty defended if you're one team trying very hard to do so.
My vote for best looking map is Kaminari, Though I found myself very irritated by the ambiguous way there seemed to be bounding boxes blocking you from going between some trees and not others. The mist/rain was fantastic there. Gave you a sense of being on edge not knowing where you are exactly.
I've had some fun with Asunder with 4 players or less. Very hectic trying to hold that generator that has the 2 deploy points.
