While I get ~50fps avg on the retail maps, I get 15-25fps on the CBP maps.

Does anybody experience the same phenomenon?

Most of them run fine for me, but Apophis turns my card into a steaming pile of mush.

I'm getting good performance on a black screen (see attached)!

Seriously. It depends on AA/AF settings. With them at "application preference" (because I'd been using UEd) Apophis was giving me 40-80 fps. With 6xAA, 16xAF 25-50fps.

Yea, bozzi, most of the CBP maps do tend to chop FPS in half, although I think its something Legend did that we don't know about...

I'm sure a few of the maps can be optimized a bit more, but some are all the way optimized. If there is something I am missing (Checking in UED) please inform me!! :D

I set everything to Application Pref. + VSync Off etc but still ~25 fps :|

I still think the XMP standalone/addon is still Beta. Cause the fps just doesnt seem stable enough over a wide variety of systems. Even with the ini files tweaked to the lowest and best performance settings. Not to mention my "Details" tab under "Preferences" in the console doesnt have but maybe 5 settings under it, and only 2 maybe pertain to performance. And settings I make to my INI files has no effect on the ingame settings for Video, Game, Audio. Its like I didnt even change anything. It reminds me of 2k3s betas with the ****ty fps. Something isnt right.

remember how I have basicaly what you have in terms of hardware yet get **** fps, well I get the same 15-25 on the cbp maps to, ironicaly I can sometimes hit 30 :)

Of course I also have 30 to 50 fps sometimes just not in firefights / open areas... and thats where u need it :)

It would really be useful if the "stat fps" had a minimum and a long term average. The current one is something like average over the last 5 seconds.

If we had fairly consistent benchmarking at least people with the same equipment could help each other with tweaking. As it is, I'm not sure we ever compare the same situations.

I've no idea if that would be easy or difficult to add, though.

@Bazzi

you are right, the maps run slower.

i wondered why, because the textures doesnt look that good. the maps in the xmp/addon looks much much better when you look closer. im running it at 1280x1024 and AF 8x and the "old/original xmp maps" look 10 times better. i hope they put better textures in the final pack.

thats a shot i tested with 4x AF and 4x AA (normal i play without AA). looks damn good. not comparable to the new pack.

Picture (http://ut.warriorsouls.com/U2XMPScreenshot0001.jpg)

one taken in new mappack will follow...

The maps are quite unoptimised. Most of the anti-portals in apophis for example do not occlude properly.

Hmmm.. All of the maps pretty much use the ingame Textures so nothing should look worse, only if they are stretched oddly... When you post the second screenshot I can probably see how to fix it..

ok, here are 4 screenshots i made.

3 out of the new mappack, 1 i love from the original xmp addon

well, thats the first pic:
the ground has alot of edges and it doesnt look real

Picture1 (http://ut.warriorsouls.com/U2XMPscreenshot0005.jpg)

here you can see a texture on a stone i really often see when i look around the map

picture2 (http://ut.warriorsouls.com/U2XMPscreenshot0007.jpg)

this map i really like, the texturing is very good and it looks real. also the terrain looks damn good.

Picture3 (http://ut.warriorsouls.com/U2XMPscreenshot0012.jpg)

now its time for a screenshot i really love in xmp. it looks damn good, very detailed and the textures are placed very well.

picture4 (http://ut.warriorsouls.com/U2XMPscreenshot0009.jpg)

btw: i really love the map HELL, looks and plays very good
same with Sirocco and WinterGarden, ok, its not new, but the snow looks also good.
APO, ISC and XAE are ok. not bad maps.

my eye only dont like Nanlarn and Emerald, they play well, but i dont have the feeling i have with the other maps. (texturing is boring some time)

Kaminari is boring for me, and also alot of edge problems in the map.

all in all a nice mappack, i only miss the quality sometimes when i look back to the "old" original xmp maps. maybe that was a little help or some stimulus to optimise it ;)

I've been trying to get take some shots during fights and it's damn difficult.
Either everyone leaps out of shot just as you take it, or you get killed taking it, etc. etc.

Anyway, until I manage some better shots, here's some cr@ppy ones.

1&2) Apophis, as that seems to be everyone's favorite. I get my lowest rates on it too, down to mid 30's if I try hard.
3) Asunder, there were 3 enemy and 1 teammate in the shot a second before I took it :\.
4) Kaminari, I don't think anyone's really got problems there.
5) Emerald, from what I've seen in UEd that's well optimized, so no problem there either.

On Islands it crashed before I got any fight shots, but waiting to spawn I was getting 87fps.

System:
A64 2.0GHz (3200+)
Asus K8V
512MB Infineon PC3200
Rad 9700 (non pro)
Cat 3.7 w/ DX 9.0b

2xAA, 2xAF
800x600, 32 bit
Master Detail = 6, all settings at Ultra High all detail selected except vehicle shadows
Particle Density = 255

Almost forgot the most important thing: Windows ME :D.

thats good, I get mid teens now on almost all maps for no real reason.

Weird. I find that decreasing resolution hardly give me any performance boost. However, if I uncheck draw weapon I gain a lot-about 10~15fps more. Let's hope next patch boosts performance even greater. Thx XMP teams. You guys rock! :2thumb:

Bazzi

Yeah I was also very surprised in the boost, might be that at 1024x768 is memory is überfull :/

weird bro.. youre the ONLY person i have run across that has actually gained a significant amount of FPS by lowering their resolution.
i went all the way full bore max everything highes res and noticed that i got about 5fps less than 102x768 medium settings.
i dont think this game scales right at all..most would agree.

if i drop down 2 levels of resolution, i would expect my fps to jump at least 20fps average. but instead.. i get the same performance. odd.
i honestly gave up on trying to get decent performance outta this game, i set everything low and hope i can still discern between teams. heh

GaryX
6th Feb 2004, 02:41 PM
ok Houdini-GG

maybe 2 reasons for that:

1: the cpu is too slow for your GFX card, that means it cant post more data to your gfx (which could handle much more). i had the same problem in the past

2: you have the agp aperture size bug [i only get this bug in unreal2] (go in bios, set agp aperture for test to 32 or 64 and boot. start unreal2 xmp again and check the fps). if you gained some fps go back in bios and set it back to 64-128. from then on it will work with this setting (it did for me)

Yeah shame that is the only map which looks ugly on my graphics card because it's mx and the textures are all complex shaders.

The only map that looks and plays good on my system is Naularn. All the rest suck in some way.
