Um, does anyone know Italian relatively well?

OK, so here's the story. One of my favorite bands is Rhapsody, an Italian power metal band. Wonderful stuff, really. Anyhow, on their newest album, "Power of the Dragonflame," they have a song sung entirely in Italian. It's a beautiful song, it really is...but I have no idea what the hell it's saying. So, if anyone knows any Italian, I'd appreciate a little help in understanding what the hell this song is about.

Just a warning: if you're not familiar with power metal, the lyrics tend to be very geeky. Rhapsody is particularly bad, as the band was founded to write songs about the fantasy world that the lead guitarist wrote. Supreme dorks. It's wonderful. So, if you get a lot of stuff about dragons or something, that's normal. :D

Lamento Eroico

Langue in me l'eco infranto
al truce sguardo dell'angelo cieco
rovina in me l'antica rima
nel cuor del cigno ferito e morente...
Cosmi di eternita' tradita
di verita' svanite che ora versano
lacrime d'addio in un vuoto nero...
sincero e fiero al mio destino andro'...

URLA IL TUONO
AL MIO LAMENTO EROICO
SORTE...

cosi' continuero'!

URLA IL TUONO
AL MIO LAMENTO EROICO
SORTE... CONSUMA LA REALTA'!

As a quick side note, yes, I've run this through Babel Fish, and no, it didn't make any sense whatsoever. The translation was very literal, and it didn't translate roughly a good third of the song. This has been bugging me for a while, 'cause it's a really good song.

Eh, here's a 5 minute translation job. My Italian is a bit rusty, but it should be better than the crap babelfish spits out.

Heroic Complaint

Become weak in me, the broken echo
to the threatening look of the blind angel
it ruins in me, the ancient rhyme
in the heart of the wounded and dying swan...

Cosmoses of betrayed eternity
of enfeebled truths, what time they pour
tears of goodbye in a black void...
sincere and fierce to my destiny I will go

THE THUNDER HOWLS
TO MY HEROIC COMPLAINT
FATE...CONSUMES THE REALITY!

Spirits of arcane worlds
I ask life over death
to line up the stars, my friends
and to become the celestial keeper
Custodian of recovered eternity
of found truths for all the children of mother earth...
always to her I have given life...death...
in this way I shall go on!

THE THUNDER HOWLS
TO MY HEROIC COMPLAINT
FATE...CONSUMES THE REALITY!
CONSUMES THE REALITY!
FATE...CONSUMES THE REALITY!

Hmmm. The Dork is strong with this one.

Knowing Rhapsody (I have Legendary Tales and Symphony of the enchanted lands in .ogg format in my UT2003/Music directory.) it is bound to feature words like "hero," "spirit," "ancient" and "eternal" and so on. Indeed, it starts off right from the title:

(The) Heroic lament

Pining within me (is) the sundered echo
of the blind angel's cruel gaze.
Ruined in me is the ancient rhyme
of the swan's heart (that was?) wounded and dying.
(In the?) cosmos of eternal betrayal,
the eternal truth dwindles like tears are poured in goodbye
in (the) black void.
True and proud I go to my destiny.

Shout the thundering/booming
of my heroic lament.
Destiny... (is the) bane/consumption (of) reality.

The spirits of the ancient world
asked the living and the dead (probably)
to align with the benign stars
and become guardians of the heavens.
Custodians of the eternal cure
To find the truth to mend the daughter of mother earth...
eternally the ruler of (my?) life... and death.
This endures.

Shout the thundering/booming
of my heroic lament.
Destiny... (is the) bane/consumption (of) reality.

Please keep in mind that I really don't speak Italian. At all. I just used an online dictionary and some common sense.

Edit: Damn! Instaposted by sublime. I'm sure his version is much more accurate than mine. Particularly the second half of the second verse. I really have no idea what that crap about cures and truths and daughters of mother earth is supposed to mean.
