I was wondering if we could have an official poetry thread. I'm not much in to poetry myself, but I must admit that there is some work out there that simply amazes me.

I had to make a few poets in my life for school. One made it in the regional newspaper with my face all over the page :D

This is one I made today, it is a rewritten sonnet of shakespear, the last 2 lines are unchanged. I forgot all about my english homework that was alot and important. It was about some sonnets, we had to explain them. I just rewrote one in like 5 minutes. It sounded very well, but because it was made so quickly and because it was a remake it means it has no feeling at all. I tried to apply funny somewhere but failed miserably.

Not even a bunker
of Bush, shall outlive this rhyme

because you shall be stronger,
and stone will be destroyed by time

when the third war starts,
and removes our very walls and roofs

no bomb will remove your charts,
and you shall keep your moves

against politics and lies,
you shall stand strong

even amongst some of those flies,
your legend will go along

so till the judgement that yourself arise,
you live in this, and dwell in lover's eyes.

Life's Great
The day's here are getting much longer,
There's much more to do everyday,
The weather is getting much warmer,
The clouds have now all gone away.

There's a great view from out of my window,
I can see all the way to the beach,
But a seagulls just crapped on my window
in the one spot I can't bloody reach!

There are heads just right for some snackin',
And I mean to snack on a few.
Come on, Steve, it's time to get crackin',
I got a lot o' snackin' to do!

Oh, there are villains just right for some whackin',
And I mean to whack me a few.
Come on, Zorak, it's about to happen,
I got a lot o' whackin' to do!

There are fires just right for some settin',
And I aim to set a few fires.
When those fires get set they'll be burnin'.

Shut up, Moltar!

We hate you!

You're dumb.

Erm, but... I was just...

No! You're stupid! So just shut up, stupid!

...tryin' to...

No!

... fit in.

Stupid!

ugh.

Haikus, at their simplest, are poems that follow a 5-7-5 formet (meaning that the first and last lines have five syllables, and the second line has seven).

Here are some stupid examples I just made up.

The first line has five
The second line has seven
This line, too, has five

OMG TEH FRAG by NTKB.

"I drew my gun up high,
stood there sun in the sky,
a tango drew near,
I did not feel any fear,

I then quickly let out a burst,
In the moment I did thirst,
For more blood and insane I went,
My mind becoming totally bent,

A shooting spree i did go on,
Killing people became a turn on,
Lots of bloody bodys lay,
Victory for me cause I slayed,

My team did won that round,
And my joyous cry was profound!

OMG TEH FRAG!

To which my opponent said

OMG TEH LAG!"

That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made
And crowns for convoy put into his purse:
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian:'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's day.'
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed

Not poetry, some might argue that, but one of the best.

Edit: its just so inspiring. Its Brilliant. it makes me sad that America, less Lincoln has no such inspiring words.

This is pretty much how I've been feeling for the last 3 years (minus the last few months of 2003 which were OK):

And I wait for it
But no light shows me the way
And I feel empty

Should I wait longer
But first I need to awake
My dreams do not stop

Neverending false joy surrounds me
Unstoppable and traitorous they take me
No thoughts are felt as they destroy me
