You are safe from RIAA (or any alternative) in Canada! Copy away!

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I saw this on BUF earlier, and then there was an aritcle about how it's not true after all; and the EU is about to introduce new copyright laws. But hey, the major targets are the top-uploaders, so as long as there are enough "supernodes" in Canada we're fine!

but nothing stops this program i have called 'sharescan', which lets you download any shares off the internal network.

So boo yeah, I've gotten movies galore so far from people on the university network here at school, and it doesn't count towards my 1.25gigs a week limit. werd.

the copyright laws are irrelevant in the EU i think since its illegal for an ISP to hand over customers details to a civillian organisation such as the RIAA.. so bascially any obtained IP's are useless. or so ive heard anyways. and i cant see them going to the court with an IP saying "this criminal should be on trial!" with nothing other than a number

I think the music industry has lost a very important race. They did not invest on virtual music delivery mechanisms - what the industry is doing now is to try to compensate their lost time with the so called "supernodes".

I would estimate that in 5 years time it is very natural to watch movies using internet as the media instead of using the radio-wave alternative not to talk about expensive cable thingies. Ofcourse the broadband technology needed for this is not available everywhere at once but I see it coming - and it comes FAST. Hopefully the film industry is prepared for this better than it was prepared with the gaming industry. People spend more money on video games than movies.

This copyright issue has got very funny expressions here in Finland. The local RIAA forced the TAXI drivers to pay a fee because they were playing music through the radio... The fee is not big but IMO it indicates hilariously the desperation of the RIAA people. They can crunch a few rats but there is nothing they can do to stop a huge pile of ants.
