How about an awsome motherboard to go with your parts? ;). I have a similar video card (MSI Ti4200 8X AGP) I like it a lot, really easy to overclock. BUT, you might consider a better card since HL2 and Doom3 will be coming 'soon'. Uhh..I got an Asus A7N8X Deluxe, it's a very good motherboard, but a bit pricey (in the $120 range I think). Anyways, you will probably want to get a case with lots of a fan slots, because AMD's run really hot. I have a 2600+ and I have three fans, the temperatures are about 45 degrees Celsius, which is DECENT. Anyways, hope this info helps. It's fun building computers, built my first one this summer.

Lol, a $5 sticker ^^;;.

I searched for a minute and found a "ATI RADEON 9600 128MB 8X AGP DVI/TV RETAIL " for $152.00 on neweggs. I took that card because it is very close to the price you had listed for your ti4200.

Another minute to fin a benchmark brought me this : http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1812

Keep in mind that since the benchmark is older, only directx8 game were tested (but the Ati9600 is only beated by NV ti4600).

With directx9 games coming soon, take a look at this: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1863 .

In the price range you gave, I'd definitely change the ti4200 to a Radeon 9600.

Sorry, but that means you might have to give up on your shiny sticker.

I think you should get a motherboard now, and get a CPU later. 1800 to 2400 really isn't a monumental jump.

The Shuttle nForce2 board costs about 90 dollars, and it has worked perfectly in the computers I've built with it. If you get that now, you'll be ready to get a much faster CPU once you save up a few more bucks.

Ditto with the video card. GF4mx to GF4 is a nice upgrade, but not one I'd pay for, personally. Save up some more and get at least a Radeon 9700. You'll notice a HUGE difference instead of a big difference.

Be patient. If you're going to spend hundreds upgrading, you might as well make an upgrade that won't feel stale too soon.

thats true. the only thing as ive had this OK computer for a while and it basicaly needs a overhaul. i like the idea about a new motherboard....except taht i changed my mind and i might be getting a 2600+...whitch would be more cash but i think it would be MUCH more worth it. but thanks for you suggestions, do you guys have any more ideas about the video card? im likeing the idea of the radeon...
