Well, looks like more of head banging going on again, but not the good kind. Seems like every game will work except UT2003. It locks up anytime from 30 seconds to 2 minutes into a map (hard lock, no error messages, have to turn off system manually and reboot). I put my swap file back on my C: drive where it should be and disabled the backup hard drive (added 120GB HD this weekend) and it still locks up. So, basically, my system is back to the way it was before and it's locking up. Besides moving my clock speeds back to default (290/580 back to 275/550) and reinstalling my detonator drivers, anyone else have any suggestions?

Here's my specs:

Win98SE, AthlonXP 1800+(Soyo SY-K7V Dragon+,2BA7 bios,VIA 4.37's), Thermaltake Volcano6Cu
512MB Crucial non-reg/non-ECC/2.5 DDR PC2100 SDRAM (1-512 stick)

NVIDIA MSI GeF4Ti4400-AGP4X(41.09drivers,DX8.1,290/580), Voodoo2-(1-27-2000 Athlon drivers PCI5)
SBAudigyGamer-PCI3(9-10-01 drivers,gameport blocking PCI4), Klipsch 5.1 speakers
On-board RAID/Ultra Controller-enabled in Ultra mode, on-board VIA LAN, cable modem

Full tower case, 3 fans out(80mm)back-1 fan in(120mm)front (not including PS fans), Enermax EG465P-VE(FM) 431W dual-fan PS

Kenwood 72X CD-ROM(IDE2),Lite-On 52x24x52 CDRW LTR-52246S retail(IDE4-slave), Toshiba DVD-ROM 4.8X(IDE4-master)

20GB and 120GB WD HDs 7200rpm(IDE1-120GB presently disabled), 100GB WD HD 7200rpm(IDE3-Ultra mode),
Razer Boomslang 2000 USB mouse,MS Optical mouse in PS/2,MS Sidewinder gamepads, KDS 17" monitor

Any ideas? Thanks.

The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is GPU clock being too high, but I think we've been down this path before..... The only other thing I can suggest is updating those mobo drivers, but you've said before you don't really want to, and for good reason.

I've already upgraded the BIOS to 2ba7 from my old 2ba2 to try to correct earlier problems last week. If you're talking about 4-in-1s, then this really isn't necessary for Win98SE. I'll try the default video clocks and possibly reinstalling my detonators again tonight. Any more ideas anyone?

I had similar problems with random lockups on some maps.
What I did was change the prerender from 3 to 0 in the driver settings for my Geforce 4.

I never had as long lockups as 2 minutes but I think it's worth a try.

One thing I forgot to mention is Photoshop 4 is locking up as well, but maybe moving the swap file back to the C: drive instead of first partition on other drive fixed that. I'm not sure how swapfile-fussy or swapfile-dependent Photoshop is though.

I'll try that prerender thing before underclocking. Thanks Swedix!

Thanks Swedix! I set the prerender thing to 0 and my clocks back to default and everything is working again! So, I don't know which one did it or if both were needed, but UT2003 works now!
