I've played a lot of space combat games:
X-wing/TIE fighter
Starlancer
Freelancer
Wing Commander
Independence War
Homeworld
Privateer
While these games are great, I'm looking for a game where you can:
1) Control your ship and fly it freely around space.
2) Explore your ship in first person as it's moving through space. For example, you can get up from your pilot's chair, walk through the hatch, walk down corridors, go into rooms, visit the engine room, etc.
Does such a game exist? I can't think of one...
What I'd really like is a game where you can grapple other ships, cut a whole in their hull, and invade them with weapons blazing in a first-person perspective. The defending ship could have countermeasures like turning the lights/gravity off, nerve gas, electrified deck plating, and security bulkheads. You could also grapple the ship and go EVA, floating around in a spacesuit trying to break into airlocks or disable equipment on the outside of the ship.
I think such a game would be very complex... The 3D engine would have to handle indoor environments in 1st person AND the moving spaceships that contain them.
Does anybody know of a game that has attempted this, (either released or in development), or of a 3D engine that would be up to the task, (UT2003?)
