Last Wednesday I went to Lollapoluza at Jones Beach Theater, New York with a couple of friends. In case you don't know what that is, it's a big event where a lot of bands play and a lot of activities go on. Well one of my friends has very bad eyesight(legally blind) and we got to sit in the handicapped section because of it which was dead center right near the stage behind the VIP section. Well anyway we walked around and they had a video game tent filled with PC's and Xbox's hooked up to LAN. There was competitions going on for Xbox live and the announcer was getting so into the games it was ridiculous. He was like "This is a war between the axis and allies and the object is to capture and hold the flags - *points to screen* Here you can see this guy running and up in the distance you can see the flag *Player turns down an alley* Oh my, this guy just went down a tunnel!!!" lol... He was explaining every last detail of it to the audience as the people played on lan. The winners would get backstage passes and get to walk out on stage for a brief moment of fame. The winner of the new unreleased Tony Hawk game won a skateboard autographed by Tony Hawk. Well anyway we didn't go to this event to play video games so we walked out of the tent and rocked out to some less popular unsigned bands playing on a second stage. Some band called Tripside was playing and they were pretty damn good

The main band lineup was The Distillers, The Donnas, Jurassic 5, Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, Audioslave, and Janes Addiction.

The Distillers were horrible, we left halfway through the first song. Dreadful.

The Donnas we didn't even bother to watch.

We walked in on Jurassic 5 on the 2nd to last song. I don't really like rap, but these guys were half decent, and the vibration in my chest from all the bass was just cool :)

Queens of the Stone Age were alright. I wasn't really into a lot of their songs. They did an awesome job on their single "No One Knows" though. After they played I was just about deaf.

Incubus, what can I say about Incubus. They were definitely good. Everyone loved them. They sounded just as good as they do on CD. It's just that they're not my favorite band. They played 8 bit Nintendo music from Mario Bros as an opening :D They also started playing the intro to that Police Song "Walking on the Moon". I wish they would've kept going but they just faded into one of their own songs.

Audioslave was ORGASMIC. Seriously these guys rocked the house down. Funny thing is that they played that White Stripes song "Seven Nation Army" and it sounded 10x better than the original White Stripes version. Chris Cornell came running into the audience and he ran right by us since we were in the front most row behind the VIP section. Everyone started grabbing him and chasing him. One guy went so far as to jump on him, hug him, and kiss his neck. But seriously they put on quite a show. Awesome stage setup, GREAT lighting, AMAZING music. Excellent!

Janes Addiction was the last band and we didn't really dig them. My friends agreed, the music was good, but the singer is not. He has such a high voice, and it seems very monotone. The best thing about them was that they had girls stripping on stage and riding poles :D Anyway we left early so we could beat the crowd/traffic.

Great day though. We were there for well over 11 hours.

Hey TM that's awsome. I would have to agree with you on everything there.

Distillers sucked wind.
Donnas are just meh...
J5, not my fave but fun to watch.
Janes Addiction, good music, bad vocals.

Doesnt matter though, the only reason I went was to see Incubus and Audioslave and see the Queens play "No One Knows."

But Audioslave did seriously rule them all. They also covered "Seven Nation Army" when they were here (must being doing it all over the country) and it dwarfed the White Stripes original. Their sound was amazing and I just got lost listening to it. Awsome stuff. And Incubus is always amazing, i've seen them once before this and they have always been superb live. They sound just like they do on the CD. Like, exactly! Easily the best performance there. The Queens (although I don't really like anything else of theirs) still went all out for their debut single and yes, they played it quite loud!

There was so much to do though in case you were'nt into the artist of the moment. My friends and I were able to spend a good 10 hours there. I suggest anyone who the show hasn't gotten to yet do go if you're into even one of the bands. It's great!

I've never listened to any of those bands. I feel so out of touch...

I just couldn't bring myself to pay $70+ for Lollapalooza

I only paid 56 bucks and I got the closest seats in the house(but that's because of our handicapped friend)

There was plenty of weed smoking, Chris Cornell commented about smelling it a few times. :D

They also had a Chronic Candy stand there. They sell marijuana flavored lollipops and other various drug flavored candy. From what I hear though it tastes like sh*t... I mean marijuana is for smoking and getting high, not for chewing on and digesting. Their slogan is "Every lick is like taking a hit"

Actually, the THC can be absorbed from oral consumption. See cannabutter, brownies, etc.

lol you know what I meant. Normally people don't eat marijuana nor would they want to.

OK I held back long enough. First of all, I love Perry Ferral's vocals. Secondly, I love the White Stripes and Seven Nation Army. ok I held back long enough.
