EA Games upcoming "Medal of Honor - Allied Assault" expansion pack called "Breakthrough" comes with a multiplayer gamemode named "Liberation" akin to the Quake mod Jailbreak - now what do you think about this?

GameSpot: There will be some new multiplayer features in Breakthrough. Tell us about the new game mode, liberation.

EA (Jody Hicks): Liberation is akin to the Quake mod Jailbreak in that once a member of a team gets killed, he or she respawns in the enemies' jail. A player who is jailed must either find a way to escape from the cell or wait for the rescue party to show up and open the jail door. It's a blast to play, and we have burned many valuable development hours "testing" the new game mode.

Did JB:POW or any other Quake version of Jailbreak have alternate escape routes? I only played one map of JB:POW, so I don't know.
Of course Jailbreak-like gametypes are fun to play, erm I mean "test". ;)

The very concept of alternate escape routes comes from the original Quake 2 JailBreak. Having to guard an escape route exit was one of the fundamental parts of the game.

However, in Quake it's directly possible to stand on a ducking player's head without the need of a ton of additional hacky code to facilitate that; at the same time (which I didn't know when I hacked the functionality into Unreal Tournament) the player at the bottom was unable to rise (let alone jump) when somebody was standing on their head, and he could simply crouch away under the other player's feet without the player on the top moving along. That greatly reduces the maximum total height of a player ladder in Quake and thus makes escape routes basing on that principle somewhat easier to implement and use.

What I'm frankly a bit surprised about is that the Jailbreak game concept hasn't much sooner already been adopted by FPS game developers just as Capture the Flag had.

I have played a couple of matches online today. I think its fun (if you are into "realistic" shooters) and worth checking out (if you are addicted to the JB gametype). It has a completely different atmosphere (WWII) and gameplay isn't as fast as within JB for UT (more like JB for Counterstrike) ... funny thing online was that lots of players had no clue how to free players (took me a while to find the switches too) and thus the game turned more into TeamDeathmatch and most people were confused when asked to release the prisoners ... lol. Too bad they don't have working bots for MOHAA in general (and thus no bots in liberation mode too) ... should be fun to play at some LAN party anyways - guess I have to buy it. :)

Bought that addon yesterday and I like it - even though there are just 3 maps available in 'liberation' mode ... let's see if the MOHAA mapping community jumps on that train.
