I just installed an ATI Radeon 7000 with 32 megs DDR in my old system to get it up and running again. I had to use the PCI version as the mobo has no AGP slot. It's an AMD K6-2 with 356 megs of ram. UT looks terrible. Low res, low frame rates. With a Voodoo3 3000 that only had 16 megs on an Mobo I don't have any more, it ran beautifully. I still use that card in my big system just for UT. Is there any way to get my Radeon 7000, what should be a superior card exept for no Glide, to work? I run Windows 2000.

You said it yourself, the voodoo cards had Glide. UT was made to have superior glide performance. What speed is that processor, btw?

Also, if I'm not mistaken the Radeon 7000 is a pretty weak card, think Geforce MX, ie: castrated.

I use to run UT on this system:

Celeron 566 @ 850
192mb PC133 CAS2
Geforce SDR 32mb

I could keep my minimum framerate around 30fps in 1024x768. If you are able to get similar performance out of that system, you should probably consider yourself lucky. On non-glide games, that card is going to be better than the Voodoo, but if gilde is available, the Voodoo will most likely be faster. Also, don't forget that your processor is going to limit you a lot too.

That's odd, I could get a constant 70fps at 1024x768x32 on my Radeon 7500 before I got my 9600pro. (I guess the difference between a 64MB AGP Radeon 7500 and a 32MB PCI Radeon 7000 could be pretty big tho.)

The differences between the 7000 (VE) and the 7500 are quite large. The 7000 doesn't even support hardware transform and lighting, nor does it support FSAA.

All I can really recommend for the UT w/7000 issue is drivers. Make sure you're running the latest Catalyst drivers. If none of that works, try digging up a Voodoo 3 somewhere and running Glide.
