View Full Version : Webspace for redirected files?

As you may (or may not) know, UT comes with a feature called "redirection" that allows server admins to host all files (e.g. maps) at a different location. If a player connects to the server and is missing a file, he now downloads that file not directly from the server but from the redirected location (thus avoiding LAG on the server).

Since the release of the CustomMapPack#3 I don't have enough webspace available anymore to host all the files (and sadly it's not possible to spread/host those files at two different locations). So if there is somebody around with maybe 150~200MB unused webspace and interested to help me (us) out, please get in touch with me. Thanks in advance. :)

I suppose the built-in HTTP client that downloads the redirected files doesn't support HTTP redirection, does it?

[IpDrv.HTTPDownLoad]
RedirectToURL=http://www.homepage.com/uzfiles/
ProxyServerHost=
ProxyServerPort=3128
UseCompression=True This is an example of the needed lines in the server's UT.INI ... I have no idea if the built-in HTTP client supports HTTP redirects - what does it need to check this?

Set one up. ;)

In an .htaccess file for instance if the server supports it. Like that:

Redirect /uzfiles/SomeRandomFile.unr.uz http://www.otherserver.de/uzfiles/SomeRandomFile.unr.uz

Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Alcatraz.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Alcatraz.unr.uz
Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Basmma.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Basmma.unr.uz
Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Complex.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Complex.unr.uz
Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Furia.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Furia.unr.uz
Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Grudge.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Grudge.unr.uz
Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Nifam.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Nifam.unr.uz
Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Pharynx.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Pharynx.unr.uz
Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Raid-Gold.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Raid-Gold.unr.uz
Redirect /uzfiles/JB-Talaeron-Gold.unr.uz http://ucc.sobservers.com/JB-Talaeron-Gold.unr.uz Thats the .htaccess file in my webservers root directory atm - but it's not working (UT Error: Server refused to send file Alcatraz.unr). Did I miss something or is this just evidence that UT's HTTP client does not check for the .htaccess file?

Update: Entering "http://www.ut-jailbreak.de/uzfiles/JB-Alcatraz.unr.uz" in my webbrowser starts a download of that file from ucc.sobservers.com (like it should) - so it looks like its just not working with the UT HTTP client :(

Great news about redirection, as {DJ}Ant (fotoant@t-online.de) (leader of the Deat-Juggler (http://death-juggler.ngz-server.de/modules.php?name=Forums) clan) and full-time serveradmin allowed us to use and abuse his RedirectServer (with a capacity of 1GB). I have already checked and updated the hosted files over there and thus our server should now send each and every needed file (if players e.g. miss some maps) from the redirected location. Kudos to {DJ}Ant and the whole DJ clan. If you're in the mood of "doing the right thing" stop by at there forum (http://death-juggler.ngz-server.de/modules.php?name=Forums) and say thanks. :)

Hi machine, hi rest of the JB maniacs :P

You really welcome for using our redirected Server ;)
The JB Community gives our Clan so much fun (great maps, great mods,...) that it is a kind of self-evidence to give you some back.

JB is the greatest mod ever and for sure, we got our clan cause of much ppl who love to play JB (who wonders?)

But when someone want to say thx in our forums (or just say "hello") we will happy about that also. Feel free to register or to play on our server also (for sure many JB maps on), we play with ZP and Sniper only / so no annoying flak fraggers out there

Keep up your good work and cya soon

cheers
Ant

I was on the gamevoice server for at least an hour for the lockdown yesterday (even with my connection!) but no one else was there :hmm:

(btw Sex, what ping did you get on my server when you joined? Hopefully Chez wasn't using the bandwidth when you were on there. I had three aussies playing on there last night!)

I was on the gamevoice server for at least an hour for the lockdown yesterday (even with my connection!) but no one else was there. Yeah, things are a bit slow over at the GameVoiceServer at the moment - that's why I decided to write another article on the news page about it ... I have to admit that I haven't used the voice comm a lot in the last few days/weeks BUT this is going to change. It doesn't take much to connect before joining a game and even though nobody else is around it still does not hurt. So from now on I'll be there whenever I play a few games of JB ... hopefully others will join in too.

Btw Sex, what ping did you get on my server when you joined? Hopefully Chez wasn't using the bandwidth when you were on there.I have had a ping around 500 and it looks like it's really the distance between NZ and GER that makes playing almost impossible.

Anyways, I am looking forward to see you next Parole/Lockdown and to talk to you via GameVoice. :)

How the heck do you get it to work anyway. I have tried all kinds of things. It just tells me file size mismatch. ?

Make sure you've read and understood this article (http://www.unrealadmin.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=16) - if you're still having problems, come back here and give us some more details. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the info and had a ? about the public servers listed at the bottom of the tutorial. Do you know if they are really active. Or do you know of some other free ones that I could upload my files to so I didnt have to load down my personal server so much. Also I tried all of the stuff and have compresses the files and everything but when the client machine tries to connect it just says file size mismatch no matter how I do it.

In case you guys did not know, www.gameservers.net hosts a public redirect.

The link to upload custom files is here: http://ut.gameservers.net/newsitem.php?news_ID=860

The RedirectToURL is: http://uz.gameservers.net/

It is already loaded with lots of JailBreak stuff; though I am not sure just how fast the speeds are. You can view all the files in the redirect site by going here. http://uz.gameservers.net/

Enjoy!
