It needs to be reliable too. I need a new monitor to pack back to college. It needs to support 1280x1024 at AT LEAST 75hz refresh rate.

good luck finding that for an "ultra-low price"

For it to be lightwieght it'd have to be an LCD (depending on how lightweight we're talking). Any flat-screen LCD is very "nice", light, and if 17-19 inches would support 1280x1024. But it will be almost as much as a decent whole computer :p

i have what looks to be a 15 or 17 inch monitor in my line of sight.. seems okay, it has a sticker that says its designed for windows 95. Samtron is the brand name I suppose, since corporations havent expressedly chosen a uniform method of logo placement upon merchandise. Its dusty and has a few old, wet, sticky stains on the bottom.
Upon wiping my hand on the top, it appears to be cream and nicotene coloured under the layer of dust, which i will include at no extra charge

I'm not talking LCD light, but light enough to carry without too much trouble.

My Samsung Syncmaster 700IFT, for instance, is TOO heavy. My last monitor, an Envision EN 775E, was perfect weight but unreliable.

CRT monitors are heavy. LCD's are lighter, but you aren't going to get good response times in the larger models (read: bad for FPS gamers). Samsung are among the best monitors around, and I can't think of why/how any other company could get the tube to weigh less than they can. Solution: pick up your monitor and run laps with it, daily. After a few weeks it won't feel so heavy. :D

Zen, thats a nice idea but not worth the effort if u drop it

best bet is look for a LCD as it will be easy on you and you get so much more desk space

Well, pick up ur old monitor and run laps. The one that's lighter will feel way lighter.

Ok, I'm talking about lightweight for a CRT monitor - I don't mean lightweight as in pick it up with one hand. My current monitor is HEAVY. Plus, I think it's going to die soon.

Hey, if I can find an LCD monitor at a low price, great. But I don't expect it.

I'm talking sub-200 bucks. You may not think it's possible, but it is. My last monitor was well below 200 bucks (I can't remember the price offhand), but it couldn't handle the refresh rate I needed. Plus, it was a perfect flat screen. I don't need that perfect flat though.

The NEC FE791SB supports 1280x1024 and 75hz (at least it should, considering the max res is 1600x1200@76hz), weighs only 37 pounds, and newegg.com has it for only $184.

That's a nice monitor but it's also costs $20.00 to ship it.

I recommend this monitor:

Pricewatch found a nice AOC monitor for ~160 bucks shipping including shipping (From a reliable company, that is - the cheaper one is from an unreliable retailer).

*edit* can't remember the exact specs, but it's 19 inch and does 1600x1200 @ 75hz.

Good for you. How do I get one, is the question :)

Well, tomorrow is the deadline. If I don't get a better deal, I'm going with this...

AOC 19" 9GLR CRT Monitor, 1600x1200 max res @ 75hz, 150 bucks. It got pretty good reviews that I have seen.

*edit* oh yeah, it's .25 dpi.

that's a decent deal. The viewable area on my monitor is 19" by itself. I got it from a computer store that my friend works at, here in Florida. Not sure where you're at tho.
