If the Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com) and The Numbers (http://www.the-numbers.com) are the end-all-be-all of movie rankings (perhaps similar in scope to GameRankings.com (http://www.gamerankings.com)), then the following information should prove that, in the general public's eye, Finding Nemo was a better movie than The Matrix Reloaded.
The Matrix Reloaded first appeared in theatres on the weekend of May 18th. In the five days (Wednesday-Sunday) which it was out that weekend, it grossed $134.3 million. By the time Finding Nemo premiered June 1st, it had already grossed $232.7 million despite seeing its weekend grossing percentage dip 83% to $15.7 million. Still, $232.7 million is quite impressive.
In Finding Nemo's first weekend (Friday-Sunday), it grossed $70.2 million, which was the most ever for an animated film in a three-day non-holiday weekend. By the next weekend, it's total grossing had doubled to $144 million. Slowly but surely, Finding Nemo slipped past The Matrix Reloaded in total grossing, weekly grossing, and total screens and by July 6 Finding Nemo would overtake TMR in all three categories:
June 1:
The Matrix Reloaded: $15.7M weekend, $232.7M total, 3,453 screens
Finding Nemo: $70.2M weekend (total), 3,374 screens
June 8:
The Matrix Reloaded: $9.2M weekend, $247.8M total, 3,225 screens
Finding Nemo: $46.6M weekend, $144M total, 3,391 screens
June 15:
The Matrix Reloaded: $5.7M weekend, $257.5M total, 2,350 screens
Finding Nemo: $28.4M weekend, $191.5M total, 3,425 screens
June 22:
The Matrix Reloaded: $3.9M weekend, $264.4M total, 1,850 screens
Finding Nemo: $21.1M weekend, $228.5M total, 3,404 screens
June 29:
The Matrix Reloaded: $2.6M weekend, $269M total, 1,488 screens
Finding Nemo: $14M weekend, $254M total, 3,333 screens
July 6:
The Matrix Reloaded: $1.5M weekend, $272M total, 801 screens
Finding Nemo: $11.5M weekend, $275M total, 2,902 screens
This past weekend The Matrix Reloaded was out of the top 10 weekly in the US and no information was available for it at this time. However, Finding Nemo remained in the top 5 and is nearing the $300 million plateau:
$8.4M weekend, $291M total, 2,643 screens
The following graph shows relative performances for the movies over their first 60 days in release.

Additionally, Finding Nemo is ranked higher at both IMDb and The Numbers (8.3 out of 6,142 users, 8.1 out of 103 votes) than The Matrix Reloaded (7.3 out of 27,800 users, 8.06 out of 205 votes).
