Is it just me or has ut2k3+++ lost its originality?

Just curious...

To get the thread started - Let me bring a few things to your attention.

Face3 - lemme guess it's too ****ing big. chill lamebrain
- You climb and climb and climb and never see the top.
- The entire map itself is a mirorr reflection of the other side.
- Every where you go there's another lookalike doodad and the same stupid texture on the wall.
- What do ya know? Another hiding spot for the everyday noob who walked right in to steal the flag and running to his new favorite hiding spot for the sole purpose of making everybody pissed.
- your walk back home feels like you are REALLY in the desert.
- too many reflections to burn your eyes out
- it's another bright map not even your brain can handle let alone your eyes.
- Just when you thought the map was looking good, you turned around and saw another bloody pharoah sitting there looking at nothingness 50x bigger than you.
- Zoom Instigib was a failure due to another bad sniping position
- You never can get enough of the bricks!
- Your computer like every other is too slow to run the map
- You are reborn into the same mini pyramid and can't help but run 5 miles back to the entracne to stop some fool that sniped you as he jumped to the doorway
- you restart your computer yet again to see if this map runs any better.

Metal maps in particular summary.
-TOO MUCH SHINY METAL
Any insight to this? Do you feel as if there are other maps that are so non-original that you feel you must post them on here with a list of wrong things? Feel free to post.

I take it you don't like themed maps. Well go play Box-land UT then. :)

Although i did make it sound clear ut2k3's version of face3 SUCKS A$$, i really am wanting some variation every once in a while.
Create doodad's and doorways that match the "so called previously mentioned THEMES" of the map.

Face3 in my opinion has a theme (sorta)
Face3 Theme: Somewhere in the sky - supposedly an asteroid ctf map with the egyptian style.

Um everything's in order except for egyptian style. I have played many a egypt map. 1 or 2 are worth playing. I must say 1 of them - the labryth - a definite work of art! thought out very well. Lacks skill though (if you fall in the maze)(skillful if you can successfully not fall in :D). Always a marvel when the enemy (at least you think so) has the element of surprise - coming around the corner (in the maze).

Egyptian Style X-tra info - The same doodad's and textures. I really dont understand. The egyptian style is okay.... but comon. I've seen the pharoah too many times. The mask too many times. The human dog statue too many times. The shiny thing on the floor too many times.

I take it you know all about originality -- being, original and all :D No critisicm please take no offense.

But once again, i have to say all i want is some variation. Boxed out ut is not what i expect :D

Orbital2... best ctf remake in UT2003. :tup:

Face3..

Most of the ctf maps in UT2003 are mirror image bases. That's not too uncommon.

Face3 is pretty frickin' large. I think Inoxx was going for a larger map than Face, since it always seemed to be crowded to the point of ridiculousness. He may have gone too far. ;)

As far as running it well... I think that may be a personal computing issue. I have a modest setup (1800XP and 9700Pro) and run it very well.

Most CTF are symmetrical because it makes for a fair game. Do you know how insanely difficult it is to balance an unbalanced map? Meaning non-symmetrical, like the original Command, or Gauntlet, or November. I've tried it before, and it's not easy in the slightest, because you always end up with one side or the other having a slight advantage/ disadvantage. The above maps are no exception, despite being very well thought out and made.

Command - Can't remember if it's possible in the original without checking, but in the 2K3 remake you can x-loc from the blue spawn room down to the red flak room. Blue base is an uphill struggle. But then red base has toxic goop surrounding it and a good defence can stop anyone from getting in with the tight corridors.

Gauntlet - Blue base is on high ground again, more difficult to attack.

November - Again, Blue base is up that long windy flight of stairs. But red base is surrounded by water, and the flag is down a long tunnel.

They're nicely done, but they still have unfair advantages in places. Symmetrical maps, while not being as original looking, do the job in a fair manner, and that seems to be what people care about most now :(

I loved the original maps, because you got a different game depending on which side you played :)

Not only can you xloc from the Blue flag room to the Red Flak room in the original UT Command, you can also xloc UP it.

What's worse, is that you can carry the Blue flag DOWN the opening, making it a horribly unfair map.

The asymmetrical maps from UT were designed with the Single Player in mind. Since you were always on the red team. The reason why they were remade to make them more symmetrical was to even out the online play.

The euro leagues kind of solved the problem of asymmetrical maps by making you play the same map twice and switch sides after the first map.

There are still many non symmetrical maps in UT2003. However the difference is very subtle. Citadel favours one side over the other for example.

I think one of the worse maps in UT was Eternal Caves. Blue's flag was a lot harder to get compared to red.

I didn't think Command was a bad map. It's biggest issue was the flag drop bug. However for some odd reason it was never fixed and no one bothered to make a league playable version of it.

Yeah i play online - i played just today with hal :D 7.11.03

but man, some people say i contradict myself - yes that one dude said it cant remember his name. I have bad days man. i get ticked whenever i see too many of the same styled maps. I hate it when fans make maps because they always find a way to put the least amount of time in it and the map turnes out either buggy or stupid or 5 million other things wrong with it.

But like i said, i just want some variation

Some issues i still think need to be said - these are just ****ing blah blah type get over it issues
-maps are too bright
-maps are too big
-corridors are too big
-static mesh beveled walkway things sticking out of the ground to guide you through the map as if you didn't already know the way
-with every doorway there's another rediculous border sticking out so it makes it so ****ing hard to tele anymore

somebody please help me i'm having a nervous break down

UT = :( box land and the music makes me sad knowing it wasn't coded to work with ut2k3
UT2k3 = :( well explained alreaedy
Warcraft III = :( no spirit to gain wins no spirit to gain losses
Starcraft / Broodwar = :(
Neverwinter Nights = :eek: somebody needs to recode that game to work with egeforce 4 it is soooo laggy it's unplayable
q3a = OLD and bots have damn near perfect aim :( plus it's boring

Just a quick point, the umx music files still work with 2K3 :)
And I've got a GF4, and NWN works fine.

That was kind of freaky hearing spectator comments. :p By the time you were spec'ing in Glacier I was in one of my suicidal modes. :)

Box land? Ehm...
Huh, the retail maps I guess.
But there are other maps.. -_-

For example: Ctf-Shadar, ProjectX2,aquamarina, Cryptic settlements, arcticoutpost.. I don't think those are box maps -_- maybe I'm missing something here.. ah well.

Not me :) I get stuck straight in running for the flag or running escort for the FC :D Don't like camping too much, it gets boring after the first 3 headshots.

Face3 is so ****ing awesome if you get about 16 players maxed with the auto fire sniper rifles. Where is that by any chance, i can't find it. It's the original sniper from UT except it shoots 9 bullets per second. I can't find it!

Oh and yeah hal i was browsing the list of deathmatch and i found your name and decided to join the game. how weird was that? like 500 dm servers and i found you :D

I decided to spectate to see if i could learn some tactics but you said you sucked, and your losing streak started coming up. alls well though
man wish i could chat with you in the irc man forums just aren't made for this type of communication :D
