ANNOUNCEMENT: GD4 pings shoud be fixed now.

Sorry for the bad pings on GD4 the last couple of days. Apprantly now it should be fixed since the machine running GD4 will be on its own dedicated T1 line alone now. Please make sure you DL all the maps before joining which can be found in a thread on our ghsot dog message board here (http://pub16.ezboard.com/bghostdogs16019). If you are still experiencing problems please inform us. We will also be upgrading the machine the server runs on soon so you can expect even better performance. Either way we plan to keep GD4 around for a long time and it will hopefully be a place of epic battles when 2.90 is released. Looking forward to seeing you all there! :)

Two bits to reply to that. I've done two optimizations to the machine since it first 'opened'. One, I've modified the thread status so the server should focus better on the game instead of my daily work which I have to do on the same box from 9-5, monday through friday Pacific Time. Second, as NTKB said, the server is now plugged into it's own port in the wall. It was behind a hub before, one that serviced 8 different computers. Since the server was never maxed out before when people were playing (ie, the processor usage never reached 100% ) I have a strong feeling that the hub was a major hurdle and the pingspikes should now not happen as much.

As far as upgrading the box, I am looking into getting an athlonXP setup. I have about $200 I can spend. Since I only need ram, mobo, and chip, I think I'll be able to swing it. That way, I'll be able to work more confidently that what I do while on the box won't interfere with games going on :)

Snake, then why not make it "GD's Sever forum?" The way its going that's what it would be.

I think its time you reviewed what forums are for. You make posts in a thread based on a common topic. You try to keep the number of repeat threads down so that people don't need to go looking all over kingdom come for answers. The common topic in these threads is "Gd Server." Why not organize them all?

If you want life in these stagnant forums, as you put it, spamming multiple threads for one server that could be merged is not one of the best ways to encourage it.

GD4 is live thread: Discussion and announcement of the opening of GD4. This is NOT a troubleshooting thread. This is NOT a poll.

Should GD4 run RA286 thread: A POLL placed to see if the community wants RA286 on the server. This has NOTHING to do with the opining of GD4 and this is NOT a troubleshooting thread. this was posted on the general forum because the online forum didnt let me post tehre either.

Server Camo display problem thread: THis was a thread that could not be posted on the troubleshooting forum because it was broken. This is for the solution of a few problems on the GD4 server. This has NOTHING to do with ra286 on gd4, this has NOTHING to do with the announcment of GD4. This IS a troubleshooting thread.

GD4 Pings fixed thread: The ONLY thread that MAY have been mergable to any degree. Either way there is no point since no one is posting many threads anyway nowadays so whats the nig deal.
