Guess what old school Ren & Stimpy fans!! The show is getting a new series on TNN...
http://www.thenewtnn.com/shows/animation/ren_stimpy/index.jhtml
One catch though. They're now openly gay. I mean really gay. Really, REALLY gay. Check out the clips.
As for me, I loved Ren & Stimpy, but I can't see myself liking this. The old show definately had some homosexual innuendoes here and there, and it was hilarious. Those 3 clips seem a little over the top though.
I have no problem with making the characters openly gay, but they don't need to act that gay. I just don't find it that funny, and this is coming from someone who absolutely loved the crude and indecent humor of the original series.
 for now, but I guess I should wait 'till I see the show...

No, dear god no, that is way too gay. Ren and Stimpy was funny, this is just disgusting. No one wants to watch a ****ing Ren and Stimpy cartoon where Ren reminds Stimpy that Stimpy is the one to take it in the butt.
I don't think I'll be able to sleep now, this is just too disturbing.

what the ****? what were they thinking? couldnt they just stick to the original stuff that nickalodean did back in the day when they made good cartoons?
Thats so not in ren and stimpy's personality to be homosexuals, they never acted like that.
so far I have yet to see a redo of a cartoon come back succesfully. when fans want to see a return they want it to be either re-runs of the original or exactly like the original but new episodes, not the same damn characters, but completely different look and feel of the show.
This happened with transformers too and it really sucked.

did the writers of that crap even watch the shows when they were kids? it's like every joke is about gays or them screwing. that's not what ren and stimpy are about :( guess i'll have to stick with memories of powdered toast man.

It's mind boggling how that managed to stay a child's show for so long. It WAS disgusting, and the jokes were for adults.

I'd say the animation and style and everything is exactly the same as before, just with added gayness, what's so bad about that? Sheesh grow up people :p
"Oh noes Ren and Stimpy now has gay jokes!!!!"
The original always hinted at it, just not so directly, get over yourselves :p
Edit: I'd also like to add, it's called "adult" for a reason, and it's not like anyones forcing you to watch it either.

Tapey, the thing is though is that Ren and Stimpy arent gay, they completely changed there personalities and everything else about the show that made it so darn good back then on Nickalodeon.
Ren and Stimpy have always been an adult show, if adult now though means nothing but jokes about homosexuals then well I think I just reminded myself why I hate TV today so much.
I'm not offended by it, its just that its so god damn old now and over used, NBC beat the whole homosexual joke thing to death with there stupid shows like friends.
Dont base an entire show around humor that has to do with being gay. Thats not what Ren and Stimpy is about, and thats why a majority of us aren't happy about it.
The cult followering Ren and Stimpy has right now has been wanting the original back for a long time now, either in the form of just re-runs or doing new episodes again. We got the new episodes, thats great, but this isnt the way it should be done. This new take on ren and stimpy completely ruins what made it so good in the first place.

I remember Ren and Stimpy as a show where Stimpy makes friends with his farts, where they try to adapt to a house of the future, not where they have sex with each other and converse about cum shots. I'm sorry, I'm not a homophobe or anything, but it's disgusting in a real disgusting way, not funny disgusting. I will never see Ren and Stimpy the same way again after that.

i agree. it is kinda like how rocko's modern life was. it had a lot of very adult jokes (the chokey chicken, shaved kittens, etc) but people didn't like it because of that. they loved it because the other jokes were hilarious.
we didn't get obsessed with ren and stimpy because they might have been gay. we got obsessed with them because stimpy licked a fat hairy guy to make hairballs. we got obsessed with them because of powdered toast man. we got obsessed with them because of the fart jokes.
to summarize, they are focusing on the wrong aspect.

Well that's fair enough, but watching the short clips, i found them hilarious. For example when they were sleeping in the mouth and the dangly thing (can never remember their names) was going up his ass as it snored, then he woke up and said he couldn't take it anymore, i nearly fell off my chair laughing. The bit where they were saying "I'm the pitcher..." etc, great stuff. It's obviously gay but not done in a completely direct way, i think it's great. I guess i'm in the minority but i think i'm going to thoroughly enjoy watching this when it's released.
Oh and about the having sex with each other bit, they just jumped into bed and you saw the blankets move (albiet rather erratically) after Ren lobbed a baseball into Stimpy's arse and sent him flying, if they were showing it actual then yeah fair do's but i'd say it's all done lightheartedly enough.
It looks like one of those things you watch when you come back home with a few mates after the pub and have a good laugh at.
Anyways we'll have to wait and see.

Or maybe that was part of his original idea that he had to take out of it before since it was on a kids channel?
The concept kind of pissed me off at first, but I think it will still be funny. I mentioned it to a friend, and his response was "Ambiguously Gay Duo gay, or that's just ****ing disgusting gay?"
The throbbing nose and sagging lips part was definately funny. The uvula licking ren's ******* was ok... but the pitcher catcher,

I would think this would be right up BuF's alley, after all aren't we always joking about poo and screwing or something? This should be funny shouldn't it? Guaranteed everything we joke about is a lot more homosexual than that.
so...... is stuff like this funny, or not?

Well put one_gundam_war. Nemephosis, I loved all the raunchy, indecent humor of the original series. I loved the sexual innuendoes, and there were even quite a few homosexual innuendoes in the original, all very funny. Watch a few older episodes and you'll see what I mean.
But this is just over the top. Like one_gundam_war said, they are focusing on the wrong aspect of the show. If the show was like it used to be, watching Ren throw a baseball up Stimpy's @ss would make me LMAO.
But it wasn't funny. Why? Because they added an unneeded, overly gay sexual theme. To me that takes away the humor in seeing a baseball enter Stimpy's butt.

The original series was great because it masqueraded as a perfectly innocent childrens show. In other words, it was subversive; I repeat, SUBVERSIVE, because it changed the way you observed things without letting on that it was.
This new stuff is not subversive, it's more South Parkish, i.e. openly flaming. And not as funny because of it. But I will have to see a whole episode before I judge.

It was bizzar and well, not really that funny. I mean Family guy is offensive and funny. Hell the orginal was funny! I was more in a state of WTF than anything else. I hope it was that those clips just sucked!

I did, the way I finally got it to work was to try and load the low bandwidth one, then leave the window minimized for about 15 minutes. After about that long it would finally load and play. Kind of rediculous for DSL.
And even as blatant as southpark is with much of their stuff, they always have a lot of tongue in cheek, subtle jokes and references. Not to mention that a lot of their new episodes actually have a moralistic message buried deep inside the story.

I watched it last nite. I thought it was ok. The scences where they were living in a bar's spitton (sp?) were funny and overly gross. I thought the funniest part was when ren give stimpy a good nite kiss with the rat's anus. But I thought they over played the take it up the butt theme. Hopefully next weeks ep will get away for that alittle.
Oh and I like the camio from ask Dr. Stupid. And bring back the Log song damit.
