Buying a set of golf clubs from a major cost cutting warehouse outlet, go camping or on vacation for about two weeks then returning them after you come back? I can see this being wrong if the clubs are just smashed to pieces, but using them for 1 maybe 2 rounds of golf?

I've just done this for a few reasons:

1: The rentals are not cheap, and are not in the best of condition
2: My boss is a lefty, I am a righty (the trip is work related)
3: I could possibly keep these, mainly because golf is kind of neat to play

again, is this wrong?

Been there, done that. Driving is fun a couple times a year but, meh.

I can't stand gold, way too slow for me. I have to be moving, I'm too impatient to

1. Adjust feet, alignment, test wind direction, ready myself

2. Hit ball

3. Wait for others to do steps 1 and 2

4. Go retrieve ball and hit again while repeating steps 1 and 2 before hitting

5. Continue until ball is in hole

6. Repeat steps 1 through 5, 17 more times

This is why I play everything but golf - Football, Soccer, Baseball, Tennis, Lacrosse, etc. So it is just my personaly oppinion, but still, golf = teh boring!

well, if you keep them, no.

if you don't keep them, it is really up to you and your morals. my morals say that this would be wrong, but chances are that i would do it anyway.

yeah, It's where I picked up the set. Everything is bought in large quantities direct from the manufacturer, thus cheaper.

I would've said the thing thing a couple years ago. Last summer some of my friends got me to go with them to the driving range a couple of times, then I tried actual golf... now I'm hooked. Turns out a lot more of my friends golf than I knew... and we just keep getting more and more of them into it. So far they've all liked it. The worst part about it is that it's an expensive hobby.

For me it was:

$160 irons/fairway woods
$175 driver
$10-30 to play

plus the bag, shoes, glove, tees, balls etc.

It is addicting though if you get into it. The more you go, the more you want to go.

Depends. If you bought them with the full intention of returning them after you'd used them for a week or two, that's sleazy. If you bought them, realized the expense wasn't worth the enjoyment/use you were getting out of them, then it's ok.

Agreed with Clayeth - golf is a great game. I also have been involved in various team sports (check my profile), but I gotta tell ya, golf is great. It's the most challenging difficult sport I've ever played. And as far as all the waiting - imagine having a tough day at the office and just wanting to be alone for a while. It's a nice, 70 degree early spring day in Miami. There's no better way to just relax, unwind, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Back on topic - I agree with Maj. Most stores like Cosco will take things back with no questions asked. It all comes down to your intent. Buying the clubs with the intent of returning them is misleading to the company, since the process of purchasing is in a since an agreement. If you were to the Cosco before you bought "I'm going to use these over the weekend and bring them back," they might have refused to sell them to you. There again you never know. In contrast, many golf pro shops offer a "free trial" policy, where you wan use for a time period and bring them back free of charge if you aren't completely satisfied.

My suggestion - keep the clubs if you can afford to do so. Play a few rounds at a municiple course. You'll be hooked, and glad you kept them.

Agreed, there's nothing better to do the weekend before finals than to play 18 holes with some friends. Just chill out and relax.

And yeah it's wrong. Besides, if they've been used they probably won't take them back anyway.

Why do you need us to be your conscience?

Treating a refund system as a free rental service is obviously taking advantage of someone ('wrong', if you will), the question is whether you're prepared to do it.

But as you need to seek approval from us before doing it, I'd say you're too conscientious to. So don't. Jiminy Cricket's nagging voice will probably make you slice.
