Does anyone know of a good ad blocker that will block most pop-up ads? I've never had a problem with the few that I got until recently where it has become so annoying that I feel like I need to shoot someone i'm so pissed

It has gotten to the point in fact that I cannot play a game, or listen to music, or type for 5 F*CKING MINS without something. And frankly it is driving me absolutley insane. I need something, I doubt anything out there could block them ALL but even if only HALF as much came up as now, I would be thrilled!

Anyone know of a good blocker for me? Does it matter what browser i'm using as well?

p.s. - 2 ads came up in the time it took me to type this........................

Yes. with standard popup and image blocking, as well as a system for designating which types of cookies you will store.

I've tried it b4 but scrapped it when it used NetScape Navigator as my browser, and I didn't know how to change it. Does it have to use NetScape? I wanted to keep IE cuz i've no problems with it, just want an ad blocker.

Try Proxomitron (http://http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-cats-19-10-10.html).

Just like IE, with a popup blocker built in

Except that Avant Browser (http://www.avantbrowser.com/) and MyIE2 (http://www.ruihehang.com/myie2/html_en/home.htm) are better and have actually been updated within the past year.

Better than and more recently updated than Crazy Browser?

And both avant and myie2 are free and have built in blockers?

Why bother continuing with a browser that requires you to install third party software in order to meet your required functionality? Most of these dodgy third party filters are just spyware themselves. Frankly, continuing to use IE disqualifies you from legitimate complaint against all privacy and security issues on the web. IE6 goes some way to addressing some of the problems, but honestly, if it takes them this long to start even examining the issues, they dont have their users privacy/security as a priority.

Just use mozilla.

And both avant and myie2 are free and have built in blockers?Correct on both accounts, sir.
Oh yeah, and ignore the dogpiling of "Use Mozilla" that everyone's saying. I use Avant myself and have no problems.

Well i'm using Avant now, i'll see if it does its job. So far i've gotten no pop-ups and it has been 8 mins.

That is an accomplishment in itself

-edit- i'm also liking Avant a lot more for it's clean, easy interface. I like the tab idea of being able to keep many pages opened at once all under one window, the main avant window which inside breaks down into tabs so im not filling up the explorer bar with new windows. It also makes the buttons and such smaller so that I can view much more of the pages, i'm seeing more of each page I go to than ever b4, top to bottom, side to side!

Sounds like you need adware. You shouldn't be getting popups while playing a game.

Adware?

He probably means Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/). Gets rid of all sorts of spyware than can get onto a comp.
Works pretty well, but doesn't detect them all.
Spybot (http://spybot.safer-networking.de/) does the same thing, but it also doesn't detect all spyware.
Use them both and you'd be amazed at what junk can be on your system without you even knowing.

Na, don't just go plain Mozilla, get the newest version: Mozilla Firebird. For those of you who have tried Mozilla quite a while ago while it was being developed, try it again, it's very, very good.

Opera is another option. That's what I use. I'm experimenting with this Avant one though and it seems pretty tight too.

btw it really does sound like you've been infected with some sort of adware so I recommend you take everybody's suggestions and run ad-aware.

eh the only thing about this avant is that it looks like it just runs over top of ie or something....which scares me.....

Nah, Avant is doing great, already more stable than reg IE ever was.

If your having pop ups every 5 minutes or less chances are its a back door spyware blah blah we've heard it all before...

Honestly, Adaware did JACK **** for me...but Spybot Search and Destroy worked wonders...I recommend it over Adaware...

Well AdWare did just find and delete 290 files!! So i'll try the others as well

I bet most of those were cookies. Methinks you have regular Kazaa installed...?
