For those wondering how to get mirrors in your map, and get them to work in game, just follow this UDN reference:
http://udn.epicgames.com/pub/Content/MirrorsAndWarpZones/

Pretty much all you have to do is enable stencil.

i was wondering why a mirrored surface wasn't showing up in the game but showing up in the editor! :) thanks!

Yep, found that one out recently. Unfortunately it's a user setting, so it's still a waste of time putting them in maps as you can't guarantee the user will have this setting - and if they don't, you can get some very odd effects.

And even if you get them working, the player model isn't rendered in first person, so you end up with a mirror that you can't see yourself in.

How come static meshes in a mirrored reflection have their faces turned inside out?

How come mirrors work fine in old games(DN3D, Deus Ex) but with all this amazing new technology we can't even see our player models in the mirrors. :o

No seriously, has no one else noticed this behaviour with static meshes in mirrors?? Forget not seeing yourself, look at this comparison. In the editor, the static meshes reflect properly, but in-game, the faces of the reflected static meshes are inverted (facing inwards). Is there a setting that can fix this? And I've tried making the material on static meshes two-sided, but they still reflected with the same ugly result:

Solution: Don't use mirrors in the new versions of the unreal engine. They worked great in UE1, but for some reason they haven't been properly implemented in UE2..
