You sure as hell can do it... unfortunately, the product is shareware, and you have to pay to use it after 30 days. Anyway, it's a replacement shell called Aston Shell (http://www.astonshell.com), and it's up to version 1.8.2. Digital is that real? I wouldn't think jets would fly that close to the water.

El Diablo
29th Jun 2003, 07:49 PM
It's not real, its a drawing. I guess a jet would fly that low if absolutley nescessary.

Thrawn70
29th Jun 2003, 09:10 PM
How bout the name hidden in the waves slightly right of directly below the jet?

EDIT: Ok, maybe that's the photographer's signature...

Iron Archer

nah it's good art, but you can still tell. 'Same artist did a similar pic of a low-flying B-1B if I'm not mistaken.

Well here's mine

El Diablo
29th Jun 2003, 10:47 PM

You gotta be kidding, it's obviously drawn, it's very good but you can tell it's not real. Signature in the waves, look closley and details are blurred slightly, small things that are far away from perspective arent as sharp as they'd be in a photo.

Warm Pudgy
29th Jun 2003, 10:52 PM
id say the something even bigger than the waves it the way the water shoots up in the air, i have seen an f-14 fly approx 20 feet off the water, and the water shoots outwards in a circular shape, not straight up in the air

El Diablo
29th Jun 2003, 10:58 PM
Well there ya go!

DarkAssassin289
30th Jun 2003, 12:31 AM
ok, first, it is a painting, most likely one commissioned by the military. But here is how to tell besides the obvious signature....that is a tomcat at supersonic. A Tomcat at supersonic lifting those waves would not be seen EVER...why? because they arent designed to fly that close to water, second, even if it were, the angle of the camera would mean the photographer was killed shortly thereafter since the force of the afterburners at supersonic speeds would tear him apart or the waves being rooster tailed would do him in.

it's possible that young peeps here haven't found much time to practice loading a roll of film. so about the photo I posted: I'm not convinced of editing, supersonic or not. also, no one in their right mind has their finger on the button on that camera. remote activation.. (duh?) in any case, I have yet to be shown obvious evidence of editing in the photo (someone mentioned obvious). in addtion, IMO, this is a frame taken from a high-speed movie camera so the best shot could be picked. some of you may have guessed by now (or, heaven forbid, even know  ) that exposures can appear blurred or sharp at almost any distance from the lens. if the lens aperture is very small, details far and near are viewed pretty much evenly. in addition, all very high-speed film gives an unfocused, grainy appearance to the entire exposure--even when shooting a static object.

further: let's presume that F-4s aren't designed to fly that low, either. agreed? but we'll all find out (the curious ones anyway) that there is an F-4 (decommissioned with the name "Sageburner"), that flew over mach one at extremely low altitude, maybe 30 or so years ago. it's being stored in the Smithsonian awaiting restoration. obsolete aerodynamics or not, it may still hold that record. to be clear, the Tomcat could be supersonic in the photo, and indeed is capable at low altitude. if you're not satisfied yet, speak with anyone who's worked on a carrier flight deck.

it's not my intention to drag this out, and I'm not the smartest bozo on the block. I'm simply, and only, poking large holes into some unsupported assumptions.

nice, Maj.

I thought I'd do some review, and I'm incorrect on two counts. the record was established over 40 years ago, and the restoration facility is owned by, but not located in the Smithsonian.

I like Kiss. :) the theory.

Jet's usually don't fly that close to water, if they get too much moisture in their engines it's not good.

Though it IS possible. I've seen it before. But not at that speed, it'd probably get pulled into the water, plus the intake feild at that distance would be different.

Part of the amusement of this is looking at people's desktop icons and seeing what programs they have, and looking at people's system trays and seeing how full it is. So far, I don't think anyone here has beaten how full my system tray is:
http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~npena/systray.jpg
Left to right: AIM, Motherboard Monitor, HotSync Manager, Wireless Signal Strength, Network Status, PowerMenu, ATI Display, Norton Anti-Virus, Seti @ Home, Realtek Audio, Immersion Desktop (for iFeel mouse), VNC, inCD (CD packet writing)

By the way PhrozeN, what resolution is your Windows CE handheld? Is that one of the earlier ones?

Blargh, I have merely three apps in my systray:
Gaim (use it for msn), rhythmbox (music player) and acme (multimedia keys app).
Then I have two launchers (which'd be comparable to your windows quicklaunch folder) for galeon (browser) and the terminal.
What fills the bar up is all the other applets though, two network monitor applets for each nic, email applet, charmap applet, two clocks: one normal, one internet time. Then there's the windowlist menu (stolen from mac ;)) that I hardly use and ma blog applet (don't use that much anymore either).

That isnt a mac....note the lack of a whatever they call that apple bar thing that can never ever EVER be moved for the apple is to stay above the user and be worshiped. Also note the lack of mounted drives.

Oh and the winzip dock icon kinda gives it away too.

That being said. While I detest most of the apple UI as you can see from my updated pic I do so love that dock bar. So usefull although it isnt much more than a glorified quick launch toolbar. =)

(BUMP!)

well ive now gone for the minimalist approach, i use style xp, and it can get become quite system heavy at times, but i have oodles of ram to spare so it doesnt bother meh.

the toolbars (side and top) are a proggie called y'z dock and most of the icons are done by an atari forumd bloke called krill3, the style xp set is carbonpro, and everything is normally on hide, apart from the 4 icons in the middle, ive tried finding similar art pictures of yoshimitsu ( only tekken 3 and tekken tag i love his outfit in them) but ive only found this one and one with a massive tag on the bottom :/

y'z dock may be quite difficult to find as the creator had the pant sued off him by apple, as its almost a complete rip from osx :)

oh and the winamp skin is sideamp :)

UT2003 and Unreal2/XMP are about all I have installed (and all I play). I'd use a quickbar or whatever but they always take up too much ram, are too bloated/have crapware and are never free.
