I have 'wasted' a couple of hours to understand how the JB3 WorldStats page works as I would like to help out in
changing the page to make use of our actual layout
get rid of the annoying 100% lamers
but I need some help to get this done.

a.) Here is an incomplete attempt to make use of the new layout (css):<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

<html>
<head>
<title>Jailbreak III World Stats</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<link rel=stylesheet href="/shared/global.css">
</head>

<body>
<!--#include virtual="/shared/include-header.html" -->
<!--#include virtual="/shared/include-menu.html" -->

<!--#set var="title" value="Jailbreak III World Stats" -->
<!--#include virtual="/shared/include-content-header.html" -->

missing code

<!--#include virtual="/shared/include-content-footer.html" -->
<!--#include virtual="/shared/include-footer.html" -->
</body>
</html>
... how do I have to embed the needed script ? The old one makes use of frames (<frame src="jbstatslist.cgi/stats/stats.htt" name="main" marginwidth=0 marginheight=40 noresize>) but changing the mainframe into an iframe (<iframe="jbstatslist.cgi/stats/stats.htt" name="main" marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 noresize scrolling="no" border="0">)
doesn't do the trick as it screws up the scaling completely. (I know that stats.htt needs to be changed as well but thats something for the 2nd step I guess).

b.) A cheap and dirty fix would be to change the values that cut players with less than 5 games played or less than 50 points to e.g. 25 and 500 - but I am not sure if thats desireable as it cuts down the list to less than 300 players ranked (based on the actual LOG file). Any suggestion for other values?

Final note: I know it can be annoying if somebody is fooling around with things he doesn't fully understand so if I should better leave these things alone feel free to tell me and I promise to stop it immediately. :)

The other thing about the world stats is that you change your nick without deleting the password in the box your new nick shows up with a new set of stats. I'm sure alot of entried are like that.

One thing I thought would be cool is to have a webpage showing the server player stats.
Unless there is a way i can view them already besides the F1 match stats I'd like to know.

BTW, does playing bots on the server count towards your stats?

I think the whole thing needs to be revised but that might take away more hours! :eek: Being only about 6 servers there and i feel Sexmachines server is the most used :rolleyes: It should be cut down abit.
How often is it updated? i saw 'HarrySnotter' quite high up being any 3 games i`ve seen him in :)

I'm 354 on that list but i meant the server ranking, you know, the number that appears next to your name in the F1 scoreboard.
I'm around 15 on that list, is there a way to view that list?

Using this<iframe src="jbstatslist.cgi/stats/stats.htt" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" name="WorldStats" border="0" frameborder="0" height="100%" width="100%"></iframe> leads to this (http://www.planetjailbreak.com/stats/newindex.html) - why is the height of the iframe limited to a few pixels (maybe around 100) instead of using the height of 100% ?

Because "100%" is not a valid argument for the "height" attribute. Refer to a HTML reference of your choice.

It's an .ini file on the server. There's no specific viewer for it available, but it certainly wouldn't be rocket science to make one.

How often is it updated?

Instantly.

BTW, does playing bots on the server count towards your stats?

Yes. It doesn't seem fair that a player killing a bot should be any less rewarded than one killing a human player.

Granted, that's somewhat a simplistic view of the things and it leaves the doors wide open for abuse, but then again, it is fundamentally impossible to prevent abuse to start with. I could have arbitrary amounts of time trying, and it would still have been possible to cheat. The amount of work required to try to prevent cheating stands in no reasonable relation to the effort required to cheat; nor to the importance of the entire World Stats list to start with. It's meant to be a fun feature, nothing else.

If you believe that people who are ranked higher have been cheating their way there, my suggestion is that you ignore their entries. You can still see where you are ranked in relation to the people whose honesty you trust.

how do I have to embed the needed script ?

The stats script is based on a template engine that takes an HTML file with certain control elements and fills in the stats data. The template engine's syntax is documented (http://test.link-m.de/docs/Template.html).

You can safely make a copy of stats/stats.htt and experiment with that; just substitute "stats.htt" in the stats page's URL by the copy's file name.

This template processing cannot be combined with SSI, so don't bother trying. You can, however, use the template engine's own {#include} statement to include the standard page elements; look at news/news.htt (which uses a very similar, though not exactly the same engine) for how it's done.

Does it really have to be a frame or iframe?

I just replaced the iframe in http://www.planetjailbreak.com/stats/newindex.html (doesn't exist anymore) with the actual stats.htt (http://www.planetjailbreak.com/stats/stats.htt) content, modified it a bit and got something that looked quite acceptable to me already.

I have no idea if the attached stats.htt works, but it might be worth a try.

I've got the solution to all your problems. Just don't keep the frickin' stats.:mad: That way all the llamas and low-lifes (or should I say no-lifes) won't be tempted to show up on the server to inflate their score.:mad: Problem solved

Mychaeel

That's a bit of a pity for all the honest players who might use it. As I said before, if it's so easy to spot the "low-lifes" who just want to cheat their way into the upper rankings of the stats, it should be equally easy to ignore their entries.

Maybe the stats should be organized in a Wiki-like manner: Everybody can freely edit them; all changes are logged and can be restored by anyone. That should limit the temptation to abuse them.

Here we go! Because of Wormbo's help I have been able to update the WorldStatsPage (http://www.planetjailbreak.com/stats/). It is using the new layout and now there is a tougher limit to be ranked (players with less than 25 games or a total score of less than 250 are not ranked) cutting down the list from ~900 to ~300 players.
