Not just many... ALL!! The SPoD wasn't around in March 2002. It came 'round in May. I gues they sure as sh1t killed the SPoD. I'm so fukcing mad.

naw, i dunno man. i never really paricipated in the spod. but i used to have a gerbil. his name was Kramer. he was the coolest gerbil ever, he was black with a litle white beard and he wouldnt bite anybody. he even had one of those spots under his chin that would make his leg kick when you scratched it, like a dog. but alas after 4 and 1/2 years he died of cancer, his parents had been test animals (ya pet shops sell the offspring of test animals). anyway, thats about 125 in gerbil years. but i was still sad. anyway i forget what the moral of this story was so i'm gunna go cry now. :..(


oh wait i remember. the moral is that it is best to just let good things go when they want to, see cuz i never got a new gerbil because i knew he wouldnt be as cool as the Krame-miester. and i turned out fine :^D

ya know whats really ticked me off lately? the fact that no matter how much i update, tweak, and research attempting to get a decent balance between detail, resolution, and FPS (which = gameplay) i can never do it with UT2003. And if i ever come close, my system randomly gets slower and screws me again (seriously, it just get slower and slower the longer i have it, last time i buy VAIO). Thats half the reason i never do much around here anymore. I cant get my fps to a decent area (more than 30) without losing good resolution and detail to the point where Quake 3 is prettier than UT2003. And then the next map made by Joe Mapper With The Best Comp on the Market comes out and i gotta tweak to get 10 fps! Rediculous! I have never and will never have to tweak any game made before 2002, and this one comes along and i cant even tell whats going on because of the texture detail setting! SHEESH! Damn it Atari, if Valve can make Half-Life 2 pretty on a pentium 3, the least you could do is make yours runable on a 1.5 GH p4!!! BASTARDS!!!

Anyway the point to that rant is that i think the innane requirments of the game we're all playing has somthing to do with the forums slowing down, along with the forum crash, along with death of SPoD.

and F*** atari.

1.5 GHz? hell, 2k3 runs fine at 800x600 on my brother's 1.0 GHz P3 with a GeForce2.... I think you need to figure out what else your system is running... and possibly do a fresh install of 2k3 (wipe it completely from your drive before reinstalling, or the problem may continue to plague you)

but that would be a terrible lie. except the weapons part. we could all learn a lesson from the weapons of desert crisis. even jesus could learn a lesson from the weapons of desert crisis (namely how to fire a remington 1100 shotgun). anyway i will try that and then rant about the results.

i am still annoyed with how much of a performance difference there is between maps. does anyone know of a distance fog adding mutator?

I don't think there are any mutators that add strain reducing distance fog.... Fogmatch might do that though.... and if not, it's still an awesome mute to play with. Check crappy old UT2003hq.com

vulture - They shouldnt make much of a difference ingame, unless all of those custom models and skins are being used at the same time. It can slow down the initial load, but it shouldnt make your game run any slower

well then i dont understand why the game slows down when i add stuff. itsnot my imagination when i go from 3rd highest resolution the game supports with high details etc, to 800*600 with low everything over a 3 month period.

Maybe you have too much stuff on your HD. I once had about 1GB or less of free space on my hard drive and my computer just went so slow to do anything. But then again, my computer is pretty lame.

The more stuff there is on your hard drive the slower your computer will be. There's a program that comes with your comp that helps reduce this slowdown a lot. Noone ever uses it and that's why your computer sucks. It's called Defrag. Ya see, I'm guessing you haven't done this for a VERY long time (ever?) It will take a while, but it mkaes a very noticeable difference in your computer. There may also be curruptness. Here's my advice:
1)Run scandisk and defrag. There are other programs you could get, like norton systemworks, and you can ahve that scan your whole computer and fix all the crap that's wrong. You'd be surprised how bad your comp is running com[pared to how it should be running.

The last time I tried to defrag my comp the thingy said it wasn't fragmented enough. That was a long time ago. Thanks for reminding me.

I'd really reccomend Norton System Works or Norton Utilities if you can get ahold of one of them... they work faster and generally better

Man, this computer is to slow to defrag. I don't know how long it would take. Back before this computer was full of stuff (maybe it was full of stuff at the time, but not this much stuff) my mom defraged it once. She left it overnight and i don't even think it was halfway finished. I don't even know if it was 25% finished. I just really don't feel like fooling with it b/c one of would probably want to use it when its defraging and that would already screw it up more b/c of the memory. Not to mention my mom HAS to use it for work related stuff.

when are you releasing that spiffy dart gun? are you going to include ammo (warning-not including ammo may result in a vicious biting incident)?

I'm waiting for the next release of WoRM to release the next ver. of P2K3 so I can add some presets and maybe some powerups. I've also added two mutators, Noggin Goblins and Spontaneous Combustion.
I suppose I could add ammo pretty easily, but trying to get everything in balance will probably kill me.

The last few times I've tried to compile P2K3 the compiler started yelling at me about unexpected characters in one of my classes that didn't exist (the class exists; the characters complained about don't). :con: It's on the line where I exec my utx, which leads me to believe that there's something wrong with my utx, but it opens in UEd fine. Blast it all.

I'd show y'all some screens of my latest gun, but I don't think still images would give you a very good idea of what it's like. Took me a freakin' long time to get everything coordinated right and stuff. :mad: Without a secondary fire function, it has required sixteen (seventeen including damage type) classes to make, which is the most of all my weapons so far. :p Six of them are for the plasma and explosion effects. :D New release == soon, depending on how long it takes me to think of and implement a secondary fire function.

thanks. pretty spiffy indeed :p

a few comments

- great job on the railgun's scope, but the slowdown when you fire is tremendous, my computer almost came to a complete halt. Better reduce the effects drawn.

- congrats, you pretty much already archieved something I was just about to do myself with that electricity gun. :D I was going to take the link gun's alt fire and make it look like an electric arc and link to enemies only, doing damage. The black cable solution looks much better though, IMO. But let's see how it works out.

- changing DrawScale3D of existing models, ok, but I think you exaggerated a bit.

- beautiful recharging effect on the ERPPC, but it sometimes keeps hanging in the air forever if you die.

The railgun only lags for me when I have a bunch of bots firing them all over the map. I don't know its deal is. I'm not sure I'm totally satisfied with the firing effects anyway, though I don't know what I'd change them to.

The EGun's secondary is completely different now. The tazer just didn't come out quite the way I wanted it to. I was gonna do all kinds of cool stuff with it, but... blah. I think I gave up on it when the grappling hook aspect of it refused to function.

I don't think I exagerated the scale of any of the weapons. Which one(s) are you talking about?

Didn't notice the ERPPC thing. I don't like the gun much (It's basically the lightning gun...) and give it little attention. One of these days I gotta make it cooler (maybe add even more crazy charging effects:D).

Cool. The ERPPC scope there still needs some work. Invasion monsters also display properly on the railgun's thermal scope now.

ANd howd you get the monsters to show up on the scope? Didnt your method for players use the same kinda stuff as the shadows (meaning: doesnt it need skeletalmeshes?)

I agree the scope looks decent enough so far, but I wanna get rid of the lightning gun parts altogether. So I gotta think of something different to put in the center of the screen, maybe add some pretty stuff sround the screen, and perhaps change teh charge bar. It would also be nice if I were to increase target visibility or something. The railgun can see through walls, and the drugger points to potential targets; seems like the ERPPC should get something fancy, too. Maybe just that part. I guess the remaining lightning gun parts aren't so bad.

For monster thermal scanning, I check to see if the pawn is using one of the monster meshes, and if so, use the old method. The size of the blob takes into account the monster's draw scale and draw scale 3D, so custom monsters using existing meshes should all show up properly. :D I still have to make the cow and floaty drone show up, though (the floaty drone currently displays as a humanoid on the scope :con: ).

A new version will either be out when I fix a bug in the ERPPC scope, or when I add another weapon (one weapon's already been made, which I don't think I've told any WMP people about), depending on how much new stuff everyone wants.

The problem with the scope now is that, in trying to make it zoom in farther, and zoom out the same way it zooms in (instead of all the way out with one click), whenever you press secondary when fully zoomed out, you zoom all the way in, then you can zoom in and out as you please. I can't figure out what the problem is! :mad:

Also, I found out I can still import bmps like I could in UT, so I did this:

Well I fixed the scope problem (w00t!), added some arrows so you know which way you're gonna be zooming the next time you press secondary, and made part of the crosshair rotate as you zoom in and out. :D

You should do something about the firing effect of the rail, i think thats what hes saying. I can tell when a bots shooting it because ill lose about 70% of my FPS while its processing the high detail beam that gets stretched across the whole level (its cool, but theres gotta be a way to optimize it a bit)
And make the weapons consume ammo :p theyre all cool as the dickens, but theyre mad-retarded-cheap since they dont consume ammo
And what the hell is the Nuker's secondary supposed to do?! Intimidate badguys with a tiny red light of intimidatedness?

I fixed the railgun beam effect and had Donator test it already. On ICQ he said the railgun interferance was hard on the eyes, hence the screenie with less visible noise. :D
Ammo is such a pain, though... :(

The nuker shouldnt be put into the weapon list if youve got to use a mutator for it, especially since all i saw was "use WoRM2k3 to use my weapons"

If I took it out of the list people would be going "WTF!!?? WHERE SI TEH NUKER!!!!!????" Besides, what if you just wanted to use it as a freaky stealth weapon to replace the sniper or something, with the nuking a bonus for maps with satellites? And you don't need to use a mutator for it, only a piece of it. AND I also commanded that you select the desired mutators after commanding you to select the desired weapons. AND the nuker mutator is mentioned TWICE in the readme!
Only imbecilic users don't read the instructions. All the COOL users are learning how to use the mods they dl. So there. :p

Making the nuker nuke was a lot harder than you seem to think. And none of my weapons are subclasses of other weapons. And how do YOU suggest I make people aware of the nuker mutator, if not via the readme?

This was mostly Postal's idea, and I think it's pretty snazzy! When you don't have it selected, the shoulder cannon will now automatically shoot at people you aim at for a short while. When you select it, you can fire it manually with a slightly higher ROF, plus you can lead targets with it and stuff. I like using it in conjunction with the D12a's secondary fire. :D I'm also replacing the shoulder cannon's useless secondary with a thermal vision mode (this one has a shorter range than the railgun scope, can't see through walls, and people show up in red rather than a bunch of colors). So far it's looking pretty cool. I'll post a screenshot when it's done.

So here're some shots of my new plasma gun. The big part with all the blue stuff is primary. It shoots plasma all rapid-like. I takes a few seconds to get going real fast, though. the thing on the bottom is a plasma web. When it hits someone, they're forced to crouch for five seconds, like the person at the top. Right now, if you net someone against a wall, they'll gib, but I'm not sure I like that, really. The weapon's fully functional right now, just need to hammer out a few details.

Well, I'm not sure if anyone really cares :hmm: but here's a pic of the scope for my latest weapon. Those two flares move around as you adjust your aim. I think it looks cool. ^_^ I'm also thinking of adding a little charge bar that looks like it's being projected onto the lense. :D

Well I've been messing with the plasma gun a bit lately. It was sorta wimpy before, and I've recolored the skin a bit (see pic). Also, how much do you guys like the m6A31T assault rifle? I'm thinking of getting rid of it and replacing it with something more like the assault gun from Pain2.

Well, I think I've changed my mind about the scope and rockets. For one, I got it so getting shot doesn't make you keep zooming in and out because you get bumped into the air slightly. I was gonna post a couple of animated gifs of the rockets' explosions, but they were too big, so here's a man being lit up all pretty-like by one of the rockets that is about to collide with him.

The assault gun's about done. I'm still messing with the stupid bullet trails, though (blasted emitters always seem to have something wrong with them). Also, I remembered the wireframe option for textures and tried it out for my plasma net. I think it works quite well.

I think it looks kinda like a nerf gun, which fits the mood I'm going for, I think.
Anyway, the way it works is you fire at someone, which targets them and connects them to a ball via a tractor beam or chain (haven't decided yet). So then you fire and the ball goes flying, dragging your target along with them! It's really quite amusing. :lol: Right now I'm trying to get them to take damage when they hit a wall, which is working, except they take damage from the initial acceleration of being dragged. Secondary launches a ball with yourself attached. Anyway, launching people into the abyss on Face3 is a blast. It just looks so rediculous, hence the outrageous skin. :lol:

Edit: anyone remember who requested this back in the day?

New edit: UT2K3's physics are really pissing me off right now. when impacting with a wall at a high speed, the game takes the mild slope of the wall into too much consideration and makes you fly parallel to it, making it very difficult to figure out if you've smacked one well. I also can't get the thing to stop ripping you apart at launch. Anyway, here's a pic of one of my team mates being smashed against a tree one of the few times that it worked the way I want it to.

Anyway, now I have it shooting a trace in the direction of your velocity to find if you whack anything, but I da know how to scale the damage. My only idea is to have it do more damage the closer to -1*rotator(HitNormal) the rotation of your velocity is. Anyone know how to find the measure of the angle formed by two vectors? Or how to get a single angle measure from the difference of two rotators. Or another idea completely. I wish I knew more about 3D math type stuff.

Hail to the king of scopes! :p I like the idea of the scope being activated when you crouch. And the railgun prototype looks really frickin' cool IMO, great reskin of the ball launcher. The warm up time makes it a bit difficult to hit though, what about making it fire-on-release instead, so one can controll it better? At higher levels the bots thoroughly ruled me with that weapon.

The warm up is an absolutely neccessary detail. As I've said, it was inspired by the railgun in Shadow Warrior, and I really wanted to keep the feel of it. It's really a major part of the weapon's character to me. Also, if you haven't noticed, the charge bar reflects the charge of the weapon. Anyway, I'm glad you liked the scopes and skin. :D

My next weapon will be a weapon with which you shoot a hose into an enemy, then use their flesh as ammo to fire gibs at other people! After that I may release a9.

Well the Fleischmacher's pretty much done. I kept changing my mind about how I wanted it to work, but I think I finally got it working pretty well. Primary shoots gibs at a high ROF. Killing someone with the gibs will cause them to break into more gibs. Gibs can be collected to regain ammo, fresh gibs restoring more than used gibs. Secondary is a vacuum to assist you in retrieving gibs. Gibs are good. Yum.
Anyway, I came up with the idea for this weapon cuz I was in the mood for blood and gore after playing Turok (those games seem to provide me with endless inspiration). :p I think it makes a nice starting weapon. :)

Psycho-kinetic powers override foot-mounted rockets rather than multiplying their effect.
Psycho-kinetic power-granting pills now have purply rather than blue innards to reflect the purply aura it grants you.
Foot-mounted rockets now increase your speed underwater.
-Foot-mounted rockets have been renamed "foot-mounted propulsion system" to reflect this addition.
Foot-mounted propulsion system gives you metally footstep sounds.
Foot-mounted propulsion system rockets shoot in the right direction now.
Cybernetic legs have a new trail effect.
Nuker skin has been recolored.
Nuker now uses the same zoom method as the assault gun to reduce unzooming when getting shot.
Nuker scope looks different.
Nuker cloaking field failure effect has been modified.
Nuker laser dot isn't all ugly anymore.
ERPPC charge sound volume is now inversly proportional to its charge, significantly reducing its idle buzzing volume.
Railgun isn't all elongated anymore, and no longer clips into your HUD when fired.
Railgun skin has been recolored.
Railgun is no longer treated as a super weapon.
Shoulder cannon no longer fires automatically when not in use because it kept killing things before I could shoot them. :Ž
Spontaneous Combutstion mutator combustion frequency has been reduced.
Weapons now use ammo! For now, weapons can't be thrown unless due to death, because it messes up your ammo for other weapons of that type. Ballance pending.

Yeah right, my computer can barely handle regular UT now, and I know it can't support UT2k3, so I can forget about 2k4. It used to handle UT well, but I think the amount of content on my computer is slowing it down and UT used play all wierd and skippy and somtimes, I would try to move, but I couldn't even though everything else was active.

I've pretty much forgotten about UT. IT will probably be until I get my own living quarters and computer before I can play any more UT(or play it in my mom's class room, but I would have severe limited time and it just wouldn't be worth it).

Hey, uh, does the Shoulder Cannon fire automatically AT ALL now? Cause when I have it selected it doesn't fire at enemies automatically. . .Maybe you could make secondary fire for Shoulder Cannon make it shoot at targets even when deselected. . . ?
