I think they should die. Its just an invitation for spam. Im sure all of you have noticed this. Otherwise people would not brag about there post counts or post so much.

Yeah probably, because I just got this urge to start doing spam and stuff, and that's something I've never done on BuF. It's tempting, very tempting, so can we please get rid of the post count? Do it just like it was before, where the only way you could see the post count was to click their profile and look.

Clearly an oversight by the admins; this should be remedied soon.

We'll probably remove them for the main forums at some point.

I've always been able to see postcounts in the style I use. Who really cares I like postcounts. Kinda shows whos been around longer and stuff without having to look at the joined date.

I had exactly 999 posts when the forums went down. This would've been my 1000th post.
Oh well, I never really cared about postcounts anyways.

Speaking from experience, I can tell you that might not always be the case. :) It can also be evidence that someone's a spammer. :)

Dexter, I don't have very many posts and I have been here for a pretty long time. What do you have to say about that?

How about post counts visible in OT forums and in the member profile?

Joined date matters a bit, it shows you stick around and contribute to the community (without getting banned..phil :D ). post count does nothing but cause problems here. It's already starting in this thread. Die post counts. die. :)

You have that little self control that a visible number is tempting you to spam?
That's seriously f***ed up.

People judge you on appearence, so if you have 10000+ posts theyre going to think your one of those guys whos been there for ages and knows like...everything.
but then again a funny avatar and sig can work wonders.

You do have a good point there.
It also does promote spam to reach higher numbers. I dont care what mine is.

Set everybody's post-count to Zero. I'm sure everybody would like that :D

Hmm, how about.. setting post counts to zero, but keeping them there.
At the end of each week, the person with the highest postcount gets banned ;)

whats the issue, postcount is as much an indication, if not MORE of whoes an active member of the community than reg date. There are people regged back in 2000 who have spent less time on the forum than some guy who regged last month...
so i say give me back my postcount ;'( or get rid of reg dates AND postcountings :p

I like the idea of a totally 0 postcount. I just lost all mine but now I noticed how much I actually posted. Lol. 1700 gone.
Whatever, if you disable them it won't be that much of an issue and people will forget about that.
Whatever works.

14th Jun 2003, 12:02 PM
I really don't think it makes any difference...
Wow! I've lost... ...almost... ...50 posts! :D

Or you can make postcounts like Odometers. They only go up to 999 and then roll back over to zero again.
Hadmar
14th Jun 2003, 02:11 PM
Then everyone re-registers at 999 posts. The one with the most 999 post accounts is the 1337est and wins a cookie. :D

What is this? The upteenth thread about the removal of postcounts? It seems the only people fussing about postcounts are those who want them removed. I stopped worrying about my postcount ages ago.

What I mean is that there isn't anyone posting "OMFG I HAEV 200 POSTS YAY!!!1" yet there is a whole truckload of people posting "dear god remove them or the sun will devour us all!"

I thought the forums took a turn for the better when they were removed, so I'm all for it, but I've noticed something. Mine seemed stuck at 10 for quite a while, it may still be.
Nope, its back to normal. No bug.

I never spammed to get my post count higher as I too hate people that have a higher post count think their better then someone with a lower one. Even some mods at other websites think this :o: .
