Somehow, I get the feeling that the nurse was afraid of some kind of legal reprocussions if she had stopped and given aid to the man.

What kind of society do we live in where people are so afraid of these reprocussions that they will not even stop to help a person <em>who is lodged in their windshield and bleeding to death in front of them</em>???

I see this story as evidence of a great failure on the part of much more than the person in question.

She's not a nurse, but a nurse's aid. She's not a medical professional and not going to face any legal trouble for administering aid.

To put her job in perspective, a nurse's aid is to a doctor as a busboy is to a chef.

More then likely she works in an old folks home ... helping old people out of bed and making sure they get to the lunch room on time.

I see this story as evidence of a great failure on the part of much more than the person in question.
What I see is someone who was so afraid of getting in trouble for drunk driving and hit and run that they where willing to let some poor bastard die a hidious death ... and then try to cover it up.

Please don't give me that "society is to blame" crap

I must echo {GD}NTKB's sentiments ... and I hope she gets locked up for the rest of her natural life.

Worst thing is that on the radio this morning people who knew her were calling in and trying to make her sound like a saint.

the dumb whore, if she was so worried about getting arrested she should have just had her friend drop the guy off in front of the hospital instead of both of them letting the poor guy die and trying to dump the body.

This makes me sick because she went to the same church as my family and they are probably up there right now saying "lets all pray for sister dumb whore and lets hope god can forgive blah blah" I think that letting an innocent person die a slow and painfull death is unforgivable and shouldn't be made to look like it was just an accident by people who knew her

Sorry, meant to make that seem like a sarcastic comment - it's a common joke among some of my rivetheadish friends.

Anybody else getting the smilies mixed up with avatars in posts? Right now a frown is fur's avatar.

NP, we get it all the time, the problem is people read it and take the comments seriously, which is why rave culture has met alot of crap from society in the past and continues to. (I have many raver friends, in case you're wondering)

How could they make her sound like a saint?

This is the reason why rockets to the sun should become more common.

To those who didn't catch the meaning of that, I mean we should send her on a rocket to the sun. Slowly. Strapped to a spiked chair. That would hurt. Alot. I bet the heat woulnd't be good for people trying to live, either.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A nurse's aide hit a homeless man with her car, drove home with him stuck headfirst in her broken windshield and ignored his cries for help as he bled to death in her garage over the next two or three days, police say.
When the man finally died, Mallard and her friends put the stranger's body in the trunk of another car and dumped it in a park, authorities said.
Omg, this is so unhuman I'm not even angry, I'm just sad about how people can do that. :(

Mallard's attorney, Mike Heiskell, said: "I think this is overreaching on the part of the prosecution and the police and, in the end, I believe the law will shake out that this was simply a case of failure to stop and render aid."
Now I'm angry, this guy deserves his head to go through a windshield for saying that (even if he's a lawyer).

edit - added the worse part

Update on the story --> http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,47429,00.html

The tipster said Mallard drove home, had sex with her boyfriend, then went back to the garage to find Biggs still alive, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

Mallard told investigators she removed the car seats and burned them because she was afraid of being caught and going to jail, according to the affidavit. She planned to burn the car and buy another one after receiving her income tax refund, according to the affidavit.

sorry man i justcan't take this serious. It just sounds so incredibly stupid. I mean:
1) Driving around with a man stuck in your windshield.
2) Keeping said man locked in your garage (still stuck in the windshield) while continuously checking up on him and saying you are sorry (but not actually doing anything to help).
3) explaining it to the police by saying you were scared of persecution

come on, that's not tragedy, that's comedy.

Some drugs substances and even "light" ones like ecstasy can be enough to disconnect a person from reality and to become psychopat. I'm not talking about being under influence, I'm talking about damage done and consequences when you're not high (after a long use of these drugs). Probably what happened here.

P.S.: there is no real light drugs and heavy drugs. In fact the terms light and heavy should be related by how often you use them... but well, this is another debate...

thank you for your insightfull comments Johnnyboy, I really wouldn't have expected any higher of you.

Millions of people die every week so why should i care about some homeless bastige? I don't hear you weeping over the kids stepping on landmines in Korea or the people starving in Afghanistan. Do you have any idea how long it takes somebody to starve? That takes WEEKS, so don't give me that crap.

JonnyBoyDT
10th Mar 2002, 09:12 PM
yes but do I laugh at them or find it funny furburger? no

The_Fur
10th Mar 2002, 09:18 PM
no because stepping on a landmine ranks 0 on the comedy ladder. A person driving around town with a man stuck in her windshield ranks at least a 6.
