First off do you really need a separate disk for more than one computer? Is it more stable than 98 se? any other pros and cons would be great too.

Yes you need different disks... unless of course you *ahem* get a 'special' copy. Yes, its way better than 98 se. I made the switch a month or so ago and i must tell you its MS best product yet.

I've got WinXP Corporate Pro *special* edition (;)) and I love it.
It's the next best OS after <insert favourite type> Linux.

I've heard that the Pro version of XP don't ask for the serial, because they're intended for use in corporations where there a bunch of computers. So, that's your ticket.

I run both at work on the same comp installed next to eachother and i can tell you for gaming XP=ass.
I have both a clean 98SE and a clean XP install on the same computer (different partitions ofcourse) and XP runs significantly slower even with all the fancy graphics options switched off.
Stick with 98

What are the specs on that machine? I heard XP does very well with some of the newer hardware.

I think XP has it's pros and cons but If you got a half decent system it's well worth it.

1Ghz Duron, crappy video card (one of those on-board BS things on those via boards), 256MB Ram IIRC.

XP especially likes the Pentium 4.
