View Full Version : Heavy Gear Forever

17th Feb 2002, 04:49 PM
Many of you may not remember Heavy Gear II, a game by Activision, that competed heavily with the early Mechwarrior series. HGII (now 4yrs old) was based off a pen and pencil rpg by Dream Pod 9 http://www.dp9.com

Our goal is to transpose a version of this most excellent game to Unreal 2. We have a 3d modeler, several texture people, and a game launcher..

We are seeking the skills of a coder who will help us make our dream a reality.

HGII will be supplied to this individual, and we will provide you with any resources we physically can. We will teach you the game in its many many variations, so you will have the knowledge and understanding we do. And see why we feel this would make one of the best mods ever for U2.

We are very dedicated to making this mod work.. We don't have release dates in mind, nor do we plan to release anything until it is exactly the way we want it. There is a sub name for the mod that I feel fits our over all goal.

Heavy Gear Forever- The Destination Is The Journey

If you have interest in a realistic team based strat mecha fps.. please post here or at Cobalt Studios found at the link below my sig..

some weapons to match.
you should reckognise a few of these.

the mods aiming for a fair ammount of accuracy in the models, but we wont miss any oppertunities to improve on the theme where possible.

gameplay wise, what we want is to suite all tastes from the oridginal hg2. currently ranging from fps style shoot em up, to a more slow paced rpg style.
realisticaly this isint possible to do in one go.

so the aim of hg-f is to make a root from which all other desired variations can be mutated. should keep the project simple and strait forward.

past mod experience is good, but we wont pass over anyone with an interest in heavygear and a will to learn the needed skills as they go.

This is a good opportunity for an experienced coder, maybe even a great opportunity for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience under their belt. But if you know what you're doing, don't hesitate. There are a lot of gamers out there anxious for the implementation of this mod, along with all the mecha and "gundam" fans waiting to jump in. Points to consider:

1- Experience gained will be great
2- Will look very nice on your resume
3- Will be working with fun, devoted and talented people
4- The first mod is a good jumping point into greater things

This could honestly be the open door you've been looking for.

We will also be looking for someone who can do animation. We have some experience here. But really want to compartmentalize each job, making life easier for everyone.

We have clear and defined goals in place for this initial mod. So there is no grey areas to discuss or argue about *something we feel kills off 99% of the mods before they ever get to the drawing board* The goal is a duplication! plain and simple.. After we have the dupe.. we will then begin exploring the 'possibilities'

In the end we hope to use allot of what makes some of the most popular games out there..poplular.. T2, HGII, Mechwarrior, Infiltration. The game will not fit in any catagory, but create its own.. a strat, rpg, fps would be bout the only way to truely define the END goal.. Right now our path is clear, and once there we will begin our Destination to the next Journey
