nessy could be real, but i doubt it. It is possible that a creature would survive in an isolated area for millions of years but very unlikely. There is a lot of evidence though, and it's happened before.

The legendary QaPetius Lordius. Rarly seen, this mighty creature is rumored to have the power to move entire online communities from hostile hosts with a wave of its finger(favors using middle finger).

I think Bigfoot is a left over, not a missing link. The smaller ones possibly a member of the australopithecines, and the larger probably an even more robust Neanderthal.
As far as mythology...most of them. I read an interesting article on how some of the ancient myths might have come from old fossile bones that were found, and then someone adapted a hero/storyline to fit that peice. I thought that was interesting.
From my viewpoint most of mythology serves a good purpose, either telling history or teaching values.

There's different versions, some she's pretty, some she's ugly, some she's pretty then becomes ugly :D

Actually she was born very pretty, but cursed by Athenae for her insolence to believe she could rival Athenae's beauty.
But Medusas sisters were all monsters... some were pretty, but only the part that was human.
But I think SW may have written Madusa on purpose anyway... I looked it up and found there's a female wrestler...

No, but I might add I always believed dragons and other mythological monsters refer to dinasaurs or huge mammals... ppl always talk about dinasaurs, but there have been a lot huge mammals living at the same time as modern humans (homo sapiens that is).
What do you call the big tiger with the huge teeth (the extinct one :p ) in English btw?

Yes, i think i had heard of that wrestler before...
I think Pindar refers to her as once being beautiful, but someone else says the gorgons were always ugly. Homer or someone i forget who...medusa was the only one that was mortal, so i suppose it might make sense for her to be the only pretty one, but then why group them?
Either way she's my mom, so I should know something about her :p

Anyone here ever heard of the StoneViper. Last i heard about this mythilogical creature of the past they like to sneak up behind unsuspecting prey slithering amongst the tall grass and bushes finding their way in total silence to the back of your leg. When all silence is unbroken, the teeth start to sink; sink right into the back of your leg. The pain felt as the venom squeezes through your bloodlines renders you unconcious. Other than this not much more is known about this serpent.

Medusa was a Gorgon because she was transformed into one, and the other two were her sisters anyway, so it makes kinda sense to group 'em; it's just a bit confusing 'cos some sources don't mention that Medusa wan't born a Gorgon.

I should've guessed, but you never know.
Oh, and Luci those creatures weren't really rare I think. They are just all extinct long since, and scientists may have slight difficulties connecting some ancient bones to a mythological creature.
And as for Behemoth, I heard it was described as a sort of giant hippo, and an extrimly large and aggressive hippo existed during the Ice Age and was propably known to humans.
Same for Mammoth and Sabretooth Tiger.
I guess those were monstrous enough to account for some myths.

The moth man? Never heard of that...
i doubt that a big hippo could account for Behemoth, because the bible was written thousands of years after the ice age and there were was no civilisation or writing at the time the hippo was about. Also europe is too cold for hippos today so during the ice age i would be suprised if it were there. Its one explanation though.

No, it was there. Or rather something hippo-like, but I ain't perfectly sure about its geneology. I guess it could've been an 'uncle' of the modern hippos, and its line might have ended with its extinction. But I know Mammoths traveled as far as europe and do you see any Elephants here? Well, in zoos obviously, but you get me I'm sure.
And humans at that time where already fairly intelligent. They didn't write things down but tribes who don't have writing are often well-known for remembering their history through stories. This could be another explanation for the mystification of those creatures of course. Admittedly I don't really know the part of the bible mentioning the Behemoth.
Time doesn't count as reason methinks. Too many fantastic creatures are similar to creatues that actually exist(ed) - giant Kraken, for instance.
For a long time "modern people" considered stories about gigantic monsters with tentacles myths, but we know now that the Giant Squid exists. There are indeed many different species, and while the giants among them are seen ony occasionally, they give a reasonable explanation for stories about sea monsters.

The behemoth and leviathan are both from Job, 40 & 41. It speaks of the Jordan river raging against it's mouth, so the hippo isn't an entirely improbable guess.
