This board keeps crashing my computer!

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

In the last hour or so I've been here 3 times, and within 1-2 minutes of me getting here, everything crashes. I have to reboot manually. This is time #4 and I bet it'll crash as soon as I'm finished posting this.

I did go into the bump thread, and the pic was not a problem. It just crashes at random times, usually when I'm doing something (changing pages etc.). Big pics and stuff don't make a difference.

But no, it didn't crash for the 4th time, yet.

Oh for ****'s sake, it crashed right after I posted that last message.

All these improper shut downs can't be good for my computer.

BTW, was a bunch of **** here deleted within the last day? I'm about 40 posts behind.

Mine used to do that. I believe it was because of software conflicts after I installed IE6, but going back to 5.5 didn't fix it, but eventually it went away :-/

That's why I use Netscape. :p

Here's a solution: Get a new computer!

I'm sure this is a software problem, so I don't need a new computer. I dump my temp internet files every day in hope that it will help, but it doesn't seem to. And no, I haven't been surfing the porn pages.

So, I post in the Whoa topic a minute ago, click on the Other Stuff link at the top to go back to the forum page, and just as I do that - What's this? Crash #5 today? This is really ****ing annoying.

Its probably a JavaScript problem. Try turning it off...if it goes away then you know its a problem with JS...I have had no trouble though.

Check your HD for files called nc.sys or bu.sys and delete 'em, maybe you can still save your data!

I'd start by assuming a browser problem, and reinstall/repair it. How (or if) you can do that depends on what you're using and what OS. Check add/remove programs and see if Microsoft Internet Explorer is listed - if it is, select it and hit add/remove. It'll give you a couple options, select "repair".

If that isn't it, some spyware garbage can give your browser indigestion too - drop by http://www.lsfileserv.com/index.html and grab a copy of ad-aware and run it. Even if it doesn't fix the problem, you probably have onflow or some other garbage you can do without. It'll remove it.

After that, I'd try the Windows update site, and then reinstalling Windows (over the current install - not a format). I haven't got a clue what the problem is, but if none of that fixes it you're probably just screwed.

Reinstalling windows over the current install screws everything up. Directories are named to Dir0001, Dir0002, etc. I did that about a year ago, and I ended up reformatting after anyway.

I just had a HD reformat 2 weeks ago, BECAUSE OF THE INSTABILITY PROBLEM. But it got worse! Grrrr. I'll try adware though.

Thanks for telling me. I turned off smooth scrolling. Half of the crashes happen while scrolling, so hopefully that'll help. Now I gotta work on the other half.....

Hmmm, no it didn't seem to work, cause it just crashed while scrolling down this page (before I restarted that is
