so i've got some oddly shaped corridors with bends in them that i vertex editted, would it be better to leave them in pieces or deintersect groups of them together?

hmmmm
Generally its better to have one brush then multiple little brushes, however, simply combining them wouldn't necesarily decrease your bsp cuts or node counts. In some cases, de-intersecting can add more cuts and create problems.
Try it both ways and see which produces better results as far as bsp and so forth

Try de-intersecting and see it if the brush is less complicated than all the little ones (Highly unlikly in the case of a curved corridor). If it is, sebtract it and keep it as one brush, otherwise just leave it as multiple brushes.
